We're #1

At being the worse.
According the the media outlet 24/7 Wall Street;

Peoria ranks dead last, in Good places to live, if you're an African American.

I believe that some great philosopher once mused that: The true judge of a society can be evaluated by the position of the least, amongst it citizens.

Actually, as much as Peoria has many issues and challenges I am surprised at this ranking at the bottom.There are a couple of places in NC and Texas that are bad. However, Hattiesburg, MS is even worse in my opinion.

This is from October of last year. It is #6, not #1. The data included the entire metropolitan service area to get to a population of 379,520. It would be a more accurate picture if only the city limits of Peoria was being looked at. It would still not be a pretty picture, but there are a lot of low income people in the city who are not African-American.

@RambleOn
This information is new. We have moved up from number 6.

Looks like the region has improved.

Right?

@TheOneStopHomeShop Your link took me to the 2015 data and I did not check further. My apologies. This years report did not give the population, but it my guess that they used the whole MSA which certainly skews the percentages.

@RambleOn According to the news report you are correct they use tricounty area which is WRONG. That would be like taking 3 counties around chicago to get same info.

surveys like this really tick me off... if the goal of these groups (womens rights, black rights, minority rights, handicap rights, etc) is to strive for equal treatment, then what is the point in drawing attention to exactly what sets us apart?

at no point in my life as a white male have i ever felt privileged; in fact, quite the opposite.

- if i get my wife/girlfriend pregnant, i have no say in the matter of abortion but am expected to support the child regardless
- i am considered a threat to children just for walking through a playground
- there are certain words forbidden from my vocabulary regardless if used in an entirely non-offensive way (ie, read from a book or lyrics to a song)
- i've never had any leg up in the work force. i've been working paycheck to paycheck my whole life with no savings to show for it; been on foodstamps; shamefully accepted handouts knowing i could never repay it
- there is no outlet for me to express my frustration, i just get walked on and told to suck it up because that's what men do

the list goes on... with all these different groups shouting for more diversity in order to help themselves, i can't help but consider myself a minority. but i'm not allowed to shout for my rights, why? because my ancestors had more than enough?

i don't care what group you represent if it isn't all inclusive, because you're just representing hate and doing far more damage than you are good.

At some point in time, I almost believe it became a crime to be a white male.

With all of that being said guys: I am still 9 times more likely to be arrested, than either of you, in this All-American city of ours.
Are your groups all inclusive?
Would you be willing to follow the advice that you willingly give?

It seems like my team is still singing "We shall overcome"; while your demographic wants to warm up for a rousing rendition of" We shall overcome Again".

All the while, echoes of "Venceremos", can be heard approaching, seemingly with local/regional support, in many instances.
No?

Additionally, it's been revealed that the average member of my team, has to swim twice as hard, upstream, for success in this region.

Lastly, I would like to add:
The first step in problem solving, is identifying the problem.

Looks like its inclusively, well:
Your team.

@tapeworm :

Do you?

In Buddhism action trumps words.

Tape: Just by saying I'm on the team, doesn't keep other team members, with legal authority, from shooting me dead, in the name of the law.

Unless a videographer is near.

Let's stop here. I've always appreciated most of your post here at PDC.

Wanna keep it that way.

Do you?

@TheOneStopHomeShop :

Let me rephrase that.... There are no teams. Or at least in my mind, there shouldn't be. I don't care what country you're from or if your English is broken or who you cheer for in sports or what God you worship. I honestly don't care. So yes, lets stop here and talk about something more interesting.

The victim attended services there Sunday honoring Holy Temple Pastor Eddie Bell and his wife, Carol, and was near his truck in the parking lot when three people approached and demanded his keys. Before he could react, shots rang out. The assailants ran away, and the victim was taken back into the building.

Notice how they didn't mention the race so gonna assume wasn't 3 white people or that would have been 1st words of story.
