Not voting for it either. There are streets in the East Bluff that are FAR worse than these roads. Spread the money around and I'll think about it.

The county is spending money to "educate" voters on this. It is despicable.

I really question the wisdom of putting a sales tax referendum for roads on the same ballot as a sales tax referendum for the schools.

I just can't imagine people supporting one of these, let alone two of them.

Sales taxes are not a good way to fairly collect revenue anyway....

Illinois needs to go to a progressive income tax and revamp the Motor Fuel tax system to either increasing the per gallon rate or change to a mileage based system (rather than a gallon based system).

@joepyeweed Definitely can't support a progressive income tax rate. If you follow the news, you'll see professionals leaving the state in droves. Many of them leaving for states with little or no state income tax ( such as TN, FL, TX, WA, NV) . And folks are moving to states with lower property taxes as well. (Illinoisans pay the second highest property tax rate in the nation.)

We need to do things to attract and retain professionals, not drive them away.

Things like good roads, modern quality schools, public safety, quality public spaces attract professionals. If the public safety and infrastructure goes to s*h*t, the tax rate could be zero and people would not want to come here.

I think people over-estimate the Illinois tax burden. We are right in the middle when it comes to total tax burden. States and local governments use a combination of sources of revenue - income, property, sales, user fees, tolls, etc. Illinois is not the top 10 or bottom 10 of states, but rather somewhere in the middle, when the total tax burden is compared to other states.

@joepyeweed According to a recent Gallup Poll, Illinois residents are 3rd in the nation for folks most wanting to leave. (Only behind CT and NJ). In fact, we're one of only a handful of states with declining populations.

Probably not a good time to raise income taxes. Just saying.

Its never a good time to raise taxes. Taxes and pensions should have been fixed years and years ago, the longer we wait to fix them, the larger the price tag.

I think people are leaving because the of the stalemate, there is no solution in sight.

There are solutions on the table that neither side is willing to consider.
