Sheridan Village - Does anyone know what is being built there? It's starting to look like a gas station, but I thought those had to be a certain distance from food establishments?
And I see they are clearing out part of the retail area.
Anyone know what's going on with Sheridan Village?

I saw a news article that said there was going to be a small convenient mart, too, with the gas station. They better keep their mitts off of my Fanny May Store. I love that place. BTW: After I retired from CEFCU after 30 years of work there, Fanny May asked me if I'd be interested in a job with them. I had to laugh because they would not hire me in 1972 at 18 years old because I had dark, long and straight hair down to my waist with full bangs and was wearing a mini dress with platform shoes and also wearing large hoop earrings when I applied for a job with them. Back then they told me they were looking for someone who was matronly looking so as to convey the sense to customers that they were purchasing candy made for them by their grandmother.

I have so many memories at Sheridan Village - shopping there as a very young girl with my Grandma Jane Rimington and my Mom to see Santa at Christmas time and then taking my two sons there to do the same; one of my fellow high school schoolmates served on a Teen Advisory Shopping Board there in the '70's; and, more.

I remember all the Friday nights with my dad walking from end to end, getting popcorn, a drink at Kresgees, clothes shopping and most importantly giving my mom a break from me. My best memory .is walking into Kresgees and Santa Clause came up to me and said, "Hi Janice, are you being a good little girl?" I don't remember the rest of the conversation, because I was in awe that Santa knew my name! My parents arraigned it because my dad knew the man playing Santa and they wanted me to hold onto the belief for awhile longer. They were not perfect parents, but they were fantastic parents.

I wish they would do something with the old white store building across from Sheridan Village soon!! I thought it was supposed to become a Super Kroger's.

Years ago I used to work at Carlos O Kellys which was in the building which most recently housed Burger Barge.

When that first building (now Fannie Mae) was under construction, customers facing that side of the lot were constantly asking us what they were building -- and would then get frustrated or even angry with us when we didn't know -- "but how could you not know? I mean it's RIGHT NEXT DOOR." I think they had this feeling that all the waitstaff had weekly meetings with the Mall Council or something.
At some point I got tired of being treated like I was stupid for not knowing, so when they asked, I started telling customers that it was going to be a maintenance facility for the Life Flight helicopter. Something about a loophole in the zoning regulations, and this was the only plot of land available in the tri-county area outside of the airports which would permit aircraft to land, and there were significant tax breaks for locating it near a residential area because it would save gas for people driving to work. There were large doors still in the sides of the building so I explained that was for the loading docks where parts trucks would make deliveries. I had this whole story down to perfection, adding bits here and there.
Not a single customer questioned this story which cracked me up... I mean think of the noise, the wind generated... oy.

About a year later I was taking an order and heard someone at another table saying "What do you mean a coffeeshop? That one guy told us it was going to be a helicopter store. "

@Sophie : I parked right next to that spot earlier this week. I asked one of the Junction City store personnel what was going on and they had no idea. I miss the original restaurant that was in that location and the train car.

@Sophie : @pictureme1 : An OSF Urgo facility is envisioned for the green space at Knoxville Avenue and Prospect Road, according to plans filed with the city.

OSF Urgo, an urgent-care arm of Peoria-based OSF HealthCare, is to occupy one of two buildings planned for the old Vonachen's site.
