KISS is/was one of the most entertaining / performing bands....you don't have to sing well to be great.

Barry Manilow and Rod "The Bod" Stewart have both had long careers, sold a lot of albums and have a lot of fans. Are they great?

but don't you think Alice Cooper really was the breakthrough for the whole make-up, theatrical rock performance thing before KISS?

There is a band that plays local around the Grand Rapids area, Grand Haven. They are called "CLASSIC FIX" they are beyond words My BF and I go see them where ever they are and have become friends with them...they could go bigger but prefer to stay local because they all have wives and a family...AWESOME is what they are!!!!

I second Elton John (pre-Lion King) and the Stones. I think longevity and still being able to attract huge audiences is part of greatness.
