Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said Tuesday he plans to move forward with a vote Wednesday to hold Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress.
After a meeting with Holder Tuesday, Issa said he was “disappointed” that Holder had not come with documents demanded by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
Issa said he was hopeful the documents would still be delivered by Holder later on Tuesday night, but that until he received them he would plan to move forward with the contempt vote.
Tuesday’s meeting served as a last-ditch effort to avoid the vote by Issa’s panel.
Issa has demanded that Holder fork over documents related to the Fast and Furious gun-tracking operation that his panel has been investigating, and remains unsatisfied with Holder’s effort.
Issa’s has been waging a months-long battle against the Justice Department in an attempt to get documents and information about how much lead agency officials knew about the controversial “gun-walking” used in Operation Fast and Furious.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), the ranking member on Issa’s committee, and Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), the top Democrat and Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, also attended the meeting.
