I could google and find thousands of references to Republicans claiming to be the party of family values but it woulnd't matter. I guess you aren't as informed as I thought you were to not even be aware of their claim.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Dan Quayle struck a nerve in 1992 when he went after the TV series "Murphy Brown" by saying its depiction of a single mother was irresponsible and set a bad example for America. The Republican vice president said the fictional character was "mocking the importance of fathers by bearing a child alone and calling it just another `lifestyle choice.'"

The ensuing brouhaha helped Republicans sharpen a "family values" agenda that appealed to the Christian right and carried the party through a half-dozen congressional elections. Contrast that with the GOP reaction to news that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's unmarried 17-year-old daughter was five months pregnant.

Obama and Bush were probably the two best family men we have had in office in a long time.

What trying to prove that if your teenage daughter gets pregant you have no family values- or was it that if Palin had true family values she would of made her daughter get an abortion?

If you want to know what my earlier claim was then go back and read my posts. I am not going to do a Cliff notes version for you.

Leslie, I have seen a significant effort on the part of others, like yourself, to paint the Republican Party as the Party of Family Values, but as I suspected, you could produce little evidence that the Republican Party itself intends to or even wants to be painted as such. Nobody is entitled to ownership of "family values". It is more of an ideal than a state of being and, the phrase is highly subjective.

To get to my point - I am resentful of you pinning a loose, non-specific term on Republicans such as "Family Values" in an effort to hold them to a higher standard of behavior than you would anybody else, not to mention the claims of "hypocrisy" which inevitably follow.

I read it and what you are trying to get over on me is that since Sarah Palin has a daughter that was pregnant -= she has no family values. That is exactly what that little article is saying. Real family values is her not having an abortion because the child would be a burden on her- that is real family values.

I didn't know that when I offered examples I would have to explain them too.
