I can't speak for Reagan but if he understood aids like we do he would have a simple answer like WEAR A RUBBER HIPPIE!!!!!!!!!!

And we "understand AIDS like we do" now because of conscientious efforts of people who came after Reagan to spread information and knowledge of the disease.

While I don't personally hold Reagan at fault for anything, nor do I think he necessarily did anything wrong, there's a strong point to be made that he could've done something... anything... earlier on.
