A longtime local car dealer is offering an incentive that's almost too good to be true. And, it has nothing to do with selling a car but instead the Christmas Spirit.

Four Sam Leman locations across the area will be giving away turkeys Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to noon. There's no catch as one-thousand turkeys will be handed out for free on a first come, first serve basis.

"If there was ever a time and need it's right now in our area. We're blessed to be in business for close to 50 years now. Everybody is going through a tough time now, and we just want to help out any way we can, Sam Leman Dodge City General Manager Tim Leman says.

The dealerships will each have 250 turkeys but will limit the give-away to one 17-pound turkey per household. You can pick up the turkeys at the Peoria location on Pioneer Parkway along with the Morton and two Bloomington dealerships.

I agree its a "nice" thing for them to do, but does anybody actually believe its not a gimmick to get new people for their mailing list?

If it wasn't Why not donate the 1000 turkeys to local Food pantries?

Because people in food pantries are less likely to say "I find myself in the market for a new vehicle... I should stop by Mr Leman's fine establishment."

Thing is, you know a promotion like this will have trashy people lined up outside the door starting at 4AM, and most will be groups of Mother, Husband, and three children all posing as individuals and going home with five turkeys.

Bottom line is, they probably write this off somehow as marketing or charitable donation, and will recoup the costs by selling two cars.

Mod Self edit: possibly racist language!

Exactly my point.

I do appreciate your use of the "white trash" moniker though, I am sure it wasn't intended as racist but had you said any other ethnic group would that have been just as acceptable?

I agree. I don't take offense to "white trash" but why then is it offensive to say something of the like regarding non-whites? I have always wondered that.

I just realized I should have just said "trashy people" instead of "white trash."

Crazy thing is, I never considered the phrase "white trash" to be racist, but now that it's brought to my attention, it clearly is. Certainly if I had said something about "Asian trash" or "Indian trash" there would have been quite the stir.

So... as part of the kinder, gentler lower class of Peoria, I welcome the multicultural trash with open arms.

Also, I did not mean to exclude any of the other cultures of trash participating in Peoria. Everyone is welcome.

The media has made is Politically correct to make racist statements about "whites" while saying anything about any other race is incorrect.

Apparently at some point in my life it has become bad to be white and be proud of your heritage.

Sam Leman is a great company and it treats workers and customers well. As one of my clients, I see how they treat people and they are a very good company.

Bits...I am not sure what business you are in but don't you have a confidentiality agreement with your clients? I have many clients and would never mention them by name on a public forum.

I'm not going to comment on the "trashy people". But I don't see the problem with more than one person in a family getting a free turkey. If they are hungry enough to stand out in this bitter cold for some food, is that so terrible of them? It's not like they're giving away diamonds.

Anybody who will stand in line for a free turkey, MORE than likely needs it.
