AV8R- so enlighten me.

If adoption is the answer why are there over 500,000 kids in foster care, many waiting to be adopted?

Why is killing a child ok in the event of a rape or incest?

Telling me I am confused, so you can have the last word, is not making much of a point.

Kind of related to this whole abortion thing..

About 10+ months ago, Jamie Lynn Spears became pregnant at the age of 16. Like many people, I rolled my eyes and was like here we go again. The Spears family is just messed up. And yes... there is something to that but that isn't where I am going. I happened to be listening to the wingnut trinity Beck-Limbaugh-Hannity around that time and wouldn't you know it Jamie Lynn was the talk of the day.

Jamie Lynn stars in some TV show on Nickelodeon, which is owned by Viacom. When Viacom got the news, they rolled with it. Yeah she is 16 but they still wanted to keep the show running for more seasons. Some clever person at Viacom also got the idea to do some show with Jamie in her new mother role.

The trinity would have nothing of it. The vitriol that was aired was shocking. They wanted her fired from Viacom. Produce a show about 16 year old mother? Outrageous!!! They argued it would encourage more teens to get pregnant. They wanted her fired, scorned, cast off, PUNISHED. I am listening...wtf.

Is she planning to drop out of school (she uses a tutor like most young stars)? Nope. Does she have a good paying job to support her child? Absolutely, probably better paying than yours. Whats more it isn't going to hurt her career but rather might open more doors. Is she planning to keep the child? YES. So, shouldn't we (they) be celebrating the wonderful event of bringing a new child into the world? Shouldn't we (they) be celebrating her choice to embrace motherhood? As a bonus, she doesn't need any public aid. WOW.

But no... can't have that. A knocked up 16 year old must suffer greatly. A 16 year old should see her future evaporate away. She should be poor and denied public aid. She should be desperate to get a job but be denied one because she is 16 with child. These are the arguments the trinity made. All that was left to be done was tie her to a stake, pile on the wood, and light it. Anything less and we would have an exploding teen pregnancy crisis. Cause you know, teen girls are just eager to be pregnant.

The good thing is, she is secure enough in her future than she can ignore these sorts of *******s. Many young 16 year olds are not so fortunate to be able to ignore the *******s in their lives. Social conservatives wonder why people turn to abortion.

And back to that teen mother show. Yes the trinity were deeply outraged at the suggestion. Cause you know.. better enabling 16 year olds to be good responsible mothers is a horrible thing.

You want to reduce abortion? Celebrate child rearing. Support those teens whose situation is not nearly so fortunate. Having children in the prime of your physical self is a GOOD thing. Too many women wait n wait n wait... I am not saying having a child at 16 is the best idea but gosh if it happens don't punish, don't inflict shame, work with them in a responsible fashion that enables them to be good supportive mothers.

Most of the kids in foster care are not up for adoption, and the ones that are in most cases have issues of child abuse that are deep, most of the people that want to adopt want a newborn.

As far as aborting a child because of rape, don't you think it's bad enough that the female had to go through a rape, to have to carry a child of that event would be adding to the torture of the event that caused it, give her a choice when it comes to rape.

I have no opinion when it comes to the incest question.

And as far as aborting a child if it is going to kill the mom, that's just logic. Too many -'s and not enough +'s.

Leslie, I didn't so much tell you that you were confused. Rather, I agreed with your admission that you are confused. YOU POSTED IT! And frankly, you're beyond enlightenment at this point. Go vote Obama...get a nice deck seat on the Titanic.

Thanks Rog. Only things I can add are the obvious genetic problems associated with incest, and parental rights associated with rape. I can just see the "father" getting released from jail and demanding visitation. Ya, some liberal judge would likely allow that. For leslie and other liberals to try and piggyback infanticide as a method of birth control onto abortion because of rape, incest or the health concerns of the mother is typical. Akin to allowing anyone to kill anyone else because we can justify homicide by police or citizens acting in self defense. With leslie's logic, why shouldn't we be allowed to put a couple of rounds into the forehead of that guy who didn't accelerate the exact second the light turned green?

I'm so glad you're concerned with the mother's safety, which btw, is why Roe vs Way passed, Mother's safety.

Why is it that a conservative's arguments are akin to my 3 yr old's: "Because I said so"

Reasons that one human will kill another human:

-Defending themselves
-Defending others
-Defending property
-Aquiring property
-Structured punishment
-Anger
-Passion
-Psychosis
-Hunger
-Suicide
-Recklessness
-Accidental
-Convenience

Where does abortion fall? Convenience. It's simple, you either agree with killing for convenience or you don't.

Hmmm, I don't see desposing a ruler of a sovereign nation that posed no threat to us.

Oh, WAIT, there it is: Psychosis!

There is a very recent case where a 20 something woman 'raped' an underage boy and became pregnant by him. She successfully sued him for child support!!! He and his family (the teen's parents) are suing for custody of the child. It looks more like the parents are the one's driving the move, in the interests of the grandchild. It wasn't clear in the article I read just how distraught the teen really was. Be that as it may, the boy has NO CHOICE and it looks like his 'rapist' is forever going to impact his life, emotionally, financially. Abortion is not an option for him.

Is that fair? Is that right? Yeah it looks different when the role is kind of reversed. If you give a woman NO CHOICE... is that fair?

Actually in this thread.......26 posts mention abortion directly. One post mentions foreign policy indirectly. Only one post directly mentions foreign policy or the war in Iraq.

It is typical for conservatives to think that their way is the only way. You want tell women under what circumstances they can have an abortion and then say it is because you are trying to protect a life. Apparently the life you claim to want to protect is not important all of the time, only when YOU say so. How dare anyone try to tell me when it is ok for me to make a descision that has to do with my body. It is MY body.

I am for a woman being able to CHOOSE. I feel sorry for women who feel they have to have an abortion because they can't afford a child, can't tell their family, or some other scenario that I can't even imagine.

In response to Rog's post- who are we to say that a circumstance that we can't even imagine would be as bad or worse than a rape? What if a woman was an abused wife and finally got the courage and resources to leave and found out she was pregnant. Her abusive husband would then forever be in her life. Is that a good enough reason to let her choose?
According to adoptuskids.org there are over 129,000 kids in foster care waiting to be adopted. Why haven't all of the anti-choice people adopted a kid in foster care? If that were the case there would be no adoptable kids in foster care. When that happens I will take their opinions a little more seriously. They don't care about the kids, they care about control.
