So, if I put these and other things I created in a cookbook with a copyright, who says someone can't switch up a few ingredients, modify a cooking method and plate it differently and call it their own? If I look through all my cookbooks, I bet I can find 20 recipes for cream of potato soup which are all copyrighted.

inventions should be protected. Lets not confuse the two. It is certainly not a popular idea, but the copyrights are total BS, but they protect an industry so the law isn't changing.
As for compensation, again just for those that might just only read the few posts where it was insinuated people should work for nothing or cheaply, no one said that. |

I dabble in photography. Wildlife photography birds, butterfiles, etc. Sometimes people who know me, who have seen my pictures, will ask me to shoot their senior portrait or their wedding. I do not have the proper equipment, or experience, or training to take those types of pictures. I always feel awkward when I have to explain that they really don't want me to take thier picture. The next time someone asks for their senior portrait, I will refer them to Pock. lol.
There is a difference between a snapshot and photograph. Its about experience and knowledge and practice. |

Lol Mizzou! So that's how you get new gear.
I have done one wedding on my own and was second shooter for another. I prefer neither. Weddings are highly stressful and make for some long days during and after the event. Plus, the best lens needed for those costs $1600. No thanks. |

I have that lens and love it but weighs around 5 lbs. Together with my camera, it really wears my shoulder out. It's also fast being replaced by my 85 f/1.8 and my 50 f/1.4. The cheapie 18-55 kicks butt, too, so if I'm not taking "pro" pics I don't bother with the honker. These 3 combined weigh less than that one.

Canon user here.... if I were going to do a wedding I would probably rent some equipment...rather than buy.

When I know I'll be doing multiple for family, long term better off buying. Plus, I would use to do our own family photos.

Yep, I shoot Nikon but they have the same lenses and they're pretty much the same size/weight.
Oh I dont mind renting but if I was going to continually shoot weddings I'd buy the 70-200 f/2.8 right off the bat. It would be a good investment but you'd have to shoot enough to justify the cost. There's no way in heck I can justify it right now, especially since I don't ever want to get into weddings. My goal is commercial photography and most of the stuff I've done to date doesn't require that lens. I'm just not comfortable shooting anything higher than 85mm. |
