I REMEMBER IN THE EARLY SIXTIES DOWNTOWN PEORIA AT CHRISTMAS TIME. THE WIND WOULD BLOW. MY MOTHER WORE A SCARF AND CLUTCH A WOD OF SACKS. HER HANDS AND NOSE WERE LIKE ICE. ALONG ADAMS, FULTON, LIBERTY, AND MAIN THE SIDEWALKS WERE FULL OF EVENING SHOPPERS.

ONE CORNER COMES TO MIND. THE FOUR CORNERS HELD JOHNSON'S MENS SHOP, THE OTHER GRANTS, THE BLOCK AND KUHLS (CARSON, P/S), AND BERGNERS. DOWN ADAMS WAS PEORIA DRY GOODS. AND SITTING ACROSS ABOUT WAS SHRADSKI' AND WARD'S. TOWARDS MAIN STREET WAS HECHT'S BONNET SHOP AND ACROSS ABOUT WAS SS KRESGE'S.

I SAW THE "TEN COMMANDMENTS" AT THE PALACE OR MADISON. IT HAD AN INTERMISSION. REMEMBER PRODUCER POINTS, S&H GREEN STAMPS, AND "TOP VALUE" YELLOW STAMPS?

REMEMBER "FIVE POINTS" INTERSECTION NEAR THE JEFFERSON HOTEL? WHAT ABOUT CORNELIUS RAMBLER CAR SALES?

I remember going to Peoria Auto Parts Bowling Alley on Adams to watch my Dad bowl in the Brothers tournament and they had pin boys resetting the pins.

I would go to the Rialto Theater on Sats using Producers Points and you could stay as long as you wanted, did not have to leave when movie was over, could watch it over and over.

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN. THE MALL IS LIKE ONE GIANT BUILDING. IT IS NOT A NEIGHBORHOOD OF STORES. IT IS NOT THE SAME.

Bellevue Drive-In (Closed) on Plank Rd also A&W Root Beer stand (Closed) on Plank Rd. Hunts Drive In (Closed) Bottom of Farmington Rd Near Bradley Park..Some folks would drive up Farmington Rd and cut accross Maxwell which would put you right by the Drive In. It originally during it's operation had family movies, early 80's switched to x-rated stuff, closed after that. When I crused Main the run was to Bradley and Steak n Shake on top of the hill (1976-1979) originally the cruise was from Hunts at the bottom of the hill and to Steak n Shake (however the Steak n Shake was on Perry at the bottom of Main). The reason you might think it was Farmington Rd is it was a more Scenic way to get up to that area. The Plank road way would start near the Old Giant Store which burned down in about 1971

The Giant Store had not thought about that in many years. I use to go there to shop.
