Do not rent in Pekin...seriously.

@shifty:

Why not?

@HipKat:

Because every rental I ever saw in Pekin was slummy. And it's Pekin.

Clearly, you all are great friends.

We drove through a significant portion of Peoria and most was worrisome. I'm sorry, I know this is home to most of you but it's simply very different than where we live now.

I've been reading up on Pekin and it looks like a nice, quiet little town. There is a brownstone in the historic district that looks very nice, I think about 10 or 11 apartments, I believe on Broadway.

What is slummy about Pekin? Since I'm not part of this group, I can't tell if you are teasing each other.

If you have kids or want kids and can't afford private school stay out of Peoria. The slums of pekin are around the ethenal plants the smell can be a little to much. Everyone who talks with their teeth together lives in Dunlap. I love the Heights. Chillicothe is not bad. Washington is great . East Peoria is O.K. great vocational program at the school. The area is the worlds biggest small town if you have questions ask on here somebody will know. And if the lie to you somebody will call them on it. good luck and be careful.

No, our children are grown and in college. I'm not sure what it means to talk with teeth together but ok. We could not find anything in Dunlap that was available, everything was lengthy wait lists. Don't even know what an ethenal plant is, oh my, but according to the location of the building we are looking at in Pekin, looks fairly residential and very much in the center of town, on Broadway near 5th. I've done a Google 360 earth and have seen the building but have no idea about the neighborhood.

Personally, I think Pekin is fine. Good neighborhoods, good schools, people are nice. Peoria is a dump. One big ghetto with backwards thinking do-nothings for leaders

@LadyLulu:
Talk with their teeth together = snooty
Broadway near 5th would be near the Shnucks not far from the park. Pekin isn't bad at all Great park district. a police force that is protective and doesn't take any crap. My better half loves Pekin. And they have two pretty good places for mexican food.

Hi Everyone! I'm back again. Will be in Peoria looking at rentals this Sunday. Looks like we will have to take on more room than we need and are looking at duplexes and houses. One that caught our eye is in the Lynnhurst subdivision near 9 and 150 and near a large mall, the name escapes me at the moment.

Any feedback on the Lynnhurst subdivision. The other places are in Pekin, Washington and the last one is off of 40, northside of Peoria, between Donovan Golf Course and Mt. Hawley Country Club.

Thanks again for all your insight!

Pekin is fine. It's considered a little bit white trashy, but that's not a bad thing based on the alternative. Washington is great, probably first or second place I'd pick.

And the name of the mall is "the new mall" Actually it's Grand Prairie...I think.

the ethanol plant in Pekin was a deal buster for me when we were looking. The smell is nauseating. And it travels for MILES.

@AV8R:
