MTCO

So the ITV3 still isn't available for me. But they said they are working on a 70 miles or something line. Anyway. I was looking at MTCO and it all sounds good, but I don't like how its not unlimited usage. I use the Internet ALOT. Not just on the laptop, but through wifi on our phones, and we were wanting to stream tv from Roku and Amazon, maybe Netflix. Anyone know anything about usage limits or had problems with it?

I think their metered service is just for dial-up accounts, but I believe their broadband services are all unlimited. Call their customer support tomorrow and ask for sure. The nice thing is you'll talk to somebody local instead of overseas.

I emailed them tonight. Their website only lists High Speed as unlimited. Doesn't say on the Broadband. In the terms of service it says
"4. WASTEFUL ACTIVITY Any use of your account that is wasteful of ISP resources is not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to maintaining a non-interactive dial-in connection to the ISP (referred to as "idling"), using excessive processor time, memory, or disk space on the ISP's Unix servers, or making use of off-site Internet services in a manner conflicting with that site's definition of acceptable use. Any use of the service must be interactive use, meaning that someone is in front of the computer and using it when you are online. " |

High speed and broadband are one in the same.
I read their terms of use...standard legaleze. Wasteful does not include streaming video or the like. And to be honest, I bet you don't use as much bandwidth as you think you do. I watch several hours worth of streaming video a week, plus regular surfing. My kids watch videos on youtube and play online games, and I bet I don't go over a few gigs a month. Unless you are doing some hardcore downloading (like downloading (not streaming) dozens of movies a month), you won't even be a blip on their radar. |

On the other hand, if you're UPLOADING a ton of stuff a month, like a P2P file sharing software, they will notice that.

If you're gonna go DSL, use AT&T. It's the only service that doesn't require a separate phone line

I'm not techy. Give me examples of uploading. Last I checked Hipkat, ATT wasn't available in the area

I lied...I can get ATT. Decisions, Decisions. I don't see anything that says MTCO requires a phone line.

I have AT&T. It's cheap but it's not super fast. $20 / month. It's good enough to stream Amazon or Netflix.
Uploading would be if you are using some file sharing software and people and downloading files from your computer. Generally music or movies. If you don't steal music or movies, you have nothing to worry about. |

At&t has 3 packages. 20 bucks for the slowest, 3MB(And Yes, MTCO requires you have a separate land line, trust me on this). If you lave more than 18000 ft (I think) from the switch (I think it's on Knoxville), that's as fast as you can get. 40 Bucks for their next fastest, 6MB and I think it's 60 for their fastest, 10MB, but you have to live within 11000 ft of the switch to get that speed.
I had AT&T for 3 yrs, and I did ALL the research before I got it. If you DO go with AT&T and you have to call customer service, 1, the voice activated menu's suck and two, you can demand to speak to a rep in America. The Indians in Bangladesh are brain dead |

I had it a couple of years ago, but in my area only like the slowest was offered and it streamed awful. I am moving and it looks like I can get the 6 mb. But I want to call and verify that. Last time they told I could get faster and once we tried they said Ooops, guess we can't.
How hard is the self installation? And no I do not steal music or movies |

The self-install is pretty painless, just make sure you get a modem that they approve of, whether from them or not. You just plug in and it automatically directs you to an activation page, you'll need the relevant AT&T account information, so make sure to write down whatever usernames / account numbers they give you.

Most have a "cap" on bandwidth. They will complain if you go over it too many times. I know Comcast has a 250GB cap and then you get a warning. I struggle to stay under 250GB. I was over 100GB by March 12th

This is true. I streamed a lot of Netflix and got nasty letters from them a lot, plus some extra charges and 6 MB is ok, it's sufficient, but not great

I pay for the most expensive package they have. I was considering going with the business class service.

Well if I have never gotten any warnings I should be okay! I can go with the ATT&T 3 mbps and then if I decide I need more I just call and they do something to switch right? I wouldn't be stuck with it
