McCain: Palin was 'better candidate' than Romney

Mitt Romney's tax returns had nothing to do with Sen. John McCain's decision to choose Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008, according to the Arizona Republican, saying he chose the former Alaska governor because she was a "better candidate."

McCain received more than two decades worth of Romney's tax returns as the former Massachusetts governor was undergoing the vetting process four years ago, far more than Romney has released publicly in the 2012 campaign. Democrats have questioned whether McCain saw something untoward in those tax returns and decided to choose Palin instead.

If, by "better candidate", Palin could get more votes then Romney as VP, then that's probably an accurate statement.

Better candidate also in her ability to motivate people to get out and vote.

Romney is motivating people to stay home.

Pallin was a "better" camdidate than Romney because there were not the issues surrounding the taxes that Romney had and still has.

I think in the end it is going to show that, at some point, Romney took full advantage of every obscure deduction and loop hole to avoid paying any taxes for a few years.

If so, he had the money to hire the best tax lawyers in the country to help him find those obnscure deductions and loopholes.

The situation may have been so complicated that the McCain campaign could not figure it out and could not take a chance on Romney. Thus Palin was the better candidate.

Unlikely.

McCain already had the old rich white guy vote, why in the world would he bring in a slightly less old rich white guy? It wouldn't garner him any more votes. He brought in Palin to try to get female votes and the votes of the far right, plain and simple. McCain himself said he say a plethora of Romney's tax returns and they were not an issue. Keep in mind, most politicians are filthy stinking rich.

I agree with IT guy, I don't think Romney's taxes were the reason he wasn't selected as VP.
