Laptop Display Issue - HELP!!!!!

My HP DV8000 laptop has been having a problem overheating which has been causing it to shut down unexpectedly every few minutes. After much research I took the laptop apart last night to clean and check the fan. I never did find the fan but cleaned a bunch of dust and gunk out from inside the computer. I put everything back together exactly how I took it apart but now the screen will not work! I hooked up an external monitor and everything else seems to be working as before. I need someone to look at it and see what I did wrong as I need this laptop for Medicare Season which starts on October 15th! Money is an issue also so someone who is not too pricey would be great also. Oh it is still overheating too.

I hope you know, the slightest electro-static shock from your finger can fry certain components in your computer. You could have possibly made it worse.

Get a netbook. They're like $200.

There is usually a ribbon cable running from the display that plugs into the motherboard. Did you disconnect any cables during your maintenance?

Tape - yes I realise that electric static can fry some of the components which is why I used anti-static wrist band.

Crodseth - there were two wires running from the display to the insides of the computer. I did not disconnect them as I did not want to go into it any further than I did as I had only done this once before and that was in class at ICC with an instructor standing by.

I'd suggest opening it back up and making sure those two wires are connected firmly. Maybe they accidentally got knocked loose.

find those cables, unplug them and plug them back in. Tey may need to be reseated.

One is likely your wi-fi antenna.

For the overheating... take a wine bottle cork, cut it in half longways, and glue or doublestick tape it to the back of the lappy near the legs. That will let that much more air to flow through there.

Make sure with the overheating your fans seem to be running when they should if not there are some neat programs out there to help regulate them. I think I found some free ones on download.com
