My family and I just moved to Proria. My husband and I have two girls and another one on the way. They are 4 & 2. I'm just wanting to get some information about Peoria and what this city is like. Everyone I have met so far have seemed very nice and welcoming.

Welcome to Peoria. What would you like to know? If you are interested in meeting other moms, there are MOPs groups to join, online Meetup groups, and the Peoria Newcomers club.

Thank you! The mops group sounds like a good idea. What is there to do with kids? How is the weather, anything to really look out for? I moved to an area place off of Alan and Alta road, seems like a nice area, know anything about it?

I don't know much about that area, I live in the country outside a small town about 20 miles from Peoria. I'm leaving now to take my 4 year old to preschool so I'll write more this afternoon. Some activities for kids are gymnastics, swimming, the zoo and Wildlife Park have kids programs, look at the Peoria Park District website for all of their activities, including ice skating. Meetup.com has some mom groups that have activities throughout the month.

Meetup.com has a couple of moms groups that have play dates. As for the MOPs group, you can go to their website to find the groups in Peoria.
Where did you live previously? As for weather we can get some strong storms that produce tornadoes. During the winter we can get snow, ice, and rain depending on the temperature. I think you will find that most people are friendly and helpful. The area you've moved into is growing. |

Pick up a park guide and it will list family activities and activities for the kids. We got ours at Kroger or you could pick one up at the Peoria Park District Office. They also have a website.

I will definitely check out the website, thank you. I moved here from california. Yes, I know a big change. Do you guys get a lot of tornadoes and are they big ones? Never experienced a tornadoe before, I'm sure it will be scary at first. I did hear that this area is growing. I have been out here since saturday and so far things have been good. Thank you for the helpful websites and the information you have given me.

Welcome to the area, Kaq3! We moved here from New Mexico just over 3 years ago and the only thing I can tell you is that it's been tough to get used to the cold. Winter seems to last forever here but when everything comes alive in March it's an awesome sight to behold.

Thank you! Yes the cold has been a hard adjustment, especially when my daughters are not use to wearing big coats. I'm definitely looking forward to the spring/summer. How did you handle the tornadoes when you moved here? Are they really big to w where you need to go to a shelter? I did research and saw that peoria doesn't get hit with to many but who knows if that is right ot not. I think that is my main worry about living here is the tornadoes. Lol
