Peoria Police are investigating a series of shootings overnight. The first happened just before 10 in the 2100 block of West Wiswall. Police say 2 women were shot, one in the arm, the other in the leg. Their injuries aren't serious. Police say just after midnight shots were fired at a car in the 1100 block of West MacQueen. About 20 minutes later someone shot into a house in the 2600 block of North Prospect. Police say those 2 incidents appear to be related.

When I argue about crime not happening where we live and others dispute me by saying crime can happen anywhere, this craziness above does not happen by me. This $hit above does not happen in my neighborhood. For real. I'm thankful every day when I watch Peoria's news or read the news online.

I guess there can always be a first time and maybe that's why I dont let our kids wander around without supervision outside or promote having conversations with strangers or even leave our doors unlocked. I do that because I'm a mom and I was born a worrier, but I'm happy.. thrilled even to live 20 minutes outside of Peoria and the drama and reality you describe!

i am with you sahm. the biggest thing on our street is the lady on the corner cut down the weeds. and one of the neighbors has throat cancer. he is on the mend.

we kinda watch out for each other. we have never had dinners with any of them, but they have been there when we needed them and us for them.

well, crap can happen anywhere... some places are just more prone.

my small town, my son was approached by a man at the mall. He heard me call Alex's name so then when he thought I couldn't hear, he said "hey Alex, wanna come with me??" f'n perv!

and my niece had three separate incidents happen to her.. from baby to grade school. Luckily the pervs weren't successful. That was Burlington VT.

But yay, some places are prone to multiple kinds of crime. We have communities near Boston that are violent. always hearing about shootings and crap. In all the 20 years I have been in my town, only heard of one violent crime... a stabbing. and it was a personal thing, not random.

Everyday I find a new reason to be thankful I don't live in Peoria, make fun of small towns all you want but this kind of crap doesn't happen.

Peoria is a whole lot bigger than the friggin' east bluff. I know many people who live in nice neighborhoods and don't worry about shootings and being robbed.

Having said that, I don't live in the city either and don't plan to.

Sad thing is, 5 years ago the East Bluff wasn't crime ridden either like it is now.

I also live in the East Bluff and like many places, it depends on the street and sometimes the block. I had an incident last November, but I do not plan on moving. I did put $5.00 alarms on all the doors to give me a warning if someone opens one at night and the storm doors are always locked if the entrance door is open. On the bright side: I love my house and its big front porch, my neighbors are great, my house is paid for, the taxes are LOW, it is easy to get to wherever I need to go and I am comfortable. On balance, I'm staying!

I wonder if that has anything to do with the city tearing down all the housing projects.

I would say it has a direct correlation. Problem is the "dregs and criminal element" that lived there tore up what they had.

I would say there is a direct correlation. Problem is the dregs and criminal element from the South End destroyed the housing they had so badly it had to be destroyed.

my mom lived in the east bluff for almost 20 years. if she was still alive i would have had to pull a gun on her to get her to move closer to my sister and i. she put a lot of work into the house and yard. she loved that place.

When I first moved to Peoria, I rented a house in the East Bluff. All the neighbors were elderly cat retirees. I walked my dog around there - right past where chef lives all the time.

I said i wasn't going to do this but here it is get ready to get pi$$ed at me. We have shootings, car chases, muggings, hookers and drug raids. Them we get these to little to late people on the tv or the newspaper screaming that there nephew was a good kid and they don't know why he got shot on a thursday afternoon. then the aunty (their word not mine) starts crying about we need to stop the violence in the black community, Where is this black community i don't see a sign for it. sorry black community this is OUR community not black, not white, not purple with pink stripes, It is OUR community. now if you are getting shot 7 times on the south side of Peoria somebody wants you shot you are not a good kid you are part of the problem and it is a good thing that you got shot. To bad they didn't shoot everyone else that runs with the crew of good kids you hang out with or the crew of other good kids that you don't like. The good thing about these kids dying is that it takes about 10 kids out of the future for grandma to raise now a little more of grandma's SSi check is hers. these kids that get shot or are shooting other kids are not good kids. See you all after my time out from PDC. love most of you Jarhead out.
