Is Bill Clinton a GOP operative?

In light of a number of recent comments, I'm beginning to wonder exactly what his strategy is vis a vis Hillary's WH ambitions.
I think Clinton suspects that the U.S. economy is in the crapper regardless of who occupies the WH the next term, so he'd rather it be a Republican in office when the Euro fails and the U.S. debt limit hits the fiscal cliff. That way Hillary can slide in on the tails of a failed one term Republican Administration the same way Romney may do to the Obama administration this year. She will be 69 years old in 2016. If Bill thought that Romney could correct the problem and get a second term...he'd be foolish to be bashing Obama right now. After two terms of Romney, Hillary will be 73 years old. Not impossible to make a run at that age, but certainly not a political benefit either. My 2 cents. |

I haven't seen Bill doing anything anti-Obama?
Hillary will run in 2016, no matter who wins in 2012. My hubs says that the republicans didn't want the white house in 2008, nor do they want it in 2012 either, for the same reasons posted above. |

He said that Romney had a "sterling business record" while at Bain, which goes against the Obama narrative. He also said that we're still in a recession, and that extended the Bush tax cuts is "probably the best thing to do".
He also said at a fundraiser "remember me, I'm the only guy that gave you four surplus budgets out of 8 I submitted" This was widely seen as a dig against Obama, who can't even get his budgets passed by the Senate. |

I think you may want to look at the Clinton's comments in their full context.
However, on the big question of whether to extend the tax cuts for upper income earners, Clinton and his party’s leaders appear to be on the same page. Even a temporary extension of all the cuts would be a fight, he noted, because “Republicans don't want to do that unless [President Obama] agrees to extend the tax cuts permanently, including for upper income people. And I don't think the president should do that.
“The real issue is not whether they should be extended for another few months. The real issue is whether the price the Republican House will put on that extension is the permanent extension of the tax cuts, which I think is an error,” he said.

Well, I think what it means is they will have extend-- they will probably have to put everything off until early next year. That's probably the best thing to do right now. But the Republicans don't want to do that unless he agrees to extend the tax cuts permanently, including for upper income people. And I don't think the president should do that. That's going to-- that's what they're fighting about. I don't have any problem with extending all of it now, including the current spending level. They're still pretty low, the government spending levels. But I think they look high because there's a recession. So the taxes look lower than they really would be if we had two and a half, 3% growth. And the spending is higher than it would be if we had two and a half, 3% growth because there are so many people getting food stamps, so many people getting unemployment, so many people are Medicaid. But-- the real issue is not whether they should be extended for another few months. The real issue is whether the price the Republican House will put on that extension is the permanent extension of the tax cuts, which I think is an error.

In the long term, the tax rates are going to have to go up. Congress needs to quit all these short term deals and start coming up with real long term solutions. Which Clinton agrees need to include tax rate changes for the rich.

I understand that...my point is, and the point of this thread is, we're seeing increasingly more and more seperation from Clinton and Obama

I don't think its MORE separation.
I think its typical for that relationship. Its not like they have ever been truly in synch. There are minor differences... but not much. There is no doubt that Clinton supports Obama's policies over Romney's. |

So you'd be OK with having a surrogate saying the Mitt Romney has a "sterling business record" while you're paying millions of dollars to run ads smearing him?
