Hey, she's not MY Saint. I'm not Catholic.
And I hate when people denounce Wiki, every time someone else references it.
Crying out loud, it's not a damn teenager's website he made in his basement.

Which is why I'm frustrated. You're not Catholic, you have no stake in Mother Teresa, so why are you defending her?

I don't have a problem with Wikipedia, or even copying and pasting the entirety of your retort from Wikipedia... but if you don't even have a cursory knowledge of the work of Mother Teresa, then why are you offering up information in her defense?

It's just ridiculous to me that people just kind of say "oh yeah, what a role model for all of us..." as if it's common knowledge.

But if you actually do some research and critical thinking on the plight of the sick, the poor, the dying and what Mother Teresa and the Catholic Church really do to help these people... you should at least be able to see my point:

MORE HARM THAN GOOD.

First of all, I have a pretty good framework of what she did. I know about the controversies involving donated money, where it come from, what it may have been used for.

I wasn't trying to beatify her again, just pointing out that this woman felt a calling and followed it.

Ok, fair enough. But the same can be said of a suicide bomber.

The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is arguably one of the most successful philanthropic organizations, all while not mentioning god once. Bill is an unabashed agnostic.

Other athiests who have made significant contributions to society:

Morgan Freeman
Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie
Lance Armstrong
George Clooney
Isaac Asimov

The argument that those who do the most for society in the name of God/no God is just a divisive argument. While I *will* defend those that do good deeds w/o it being in the name of God, the whole debate is distastful. It's a disgusting argument from the Faithful and it's a disgusting argument from the atheists, IMO. I argue that nobody can really tally up both sides and come up with definitive proof for their side of the argument. Both sides have VALID reasons for wanting to do more for society in a selfless way.
