Well, worshipping bronze statues and dead humans is not worshipping a living God, for one

okay, I get that... but is HE putting more credence to those religions and putting his own selfish needs above others?

Maybe he is, and has said so. I don't know....

Tyler: there's nothing in the Bible that states that Adam and Eve were created within seven of our days. We don't have clear meaning as to exactly how long a "day" was.

I'll even add one for you because I'm surprised no one has yet brought this up yet: when Cain killed Abel he was chased from town to town. Who were all these people that chased them and where did they come from if Cain and Abel were amongst Adam and Eve's first born children? Amongst those chasing Cain were giants. Wha?? Where did those guys come from?

Again, we don't have a time frame for all this. We don't know if Adam and Eve lived at the same time as the cave men or what. The Bible doesn't say and I'm willing to believe that one day I'll know for sure but that doesn't concern me.

Also, you can't compare Jim Jones or any other religious cult to Christianity, although I know yall keep trying. True Christianity involves developing a relationship with God and fact checking everything people tell you against the Bible and other resources. Jim Jones took advantage of gullible people who blindly followed him. I've been in a cult. I know what they do. The thing that saved me from that cult was checking my sources but I lost three friends to that cult.

Put us down all you want. Call us brainwashed and whatever but I've lived a life without God and have now lived one with God very active in my life. There is no way in hell you can pay me enough to go back to how it used to be. I'll say it again and again if I have to because I LOVE saying this: I've never known a life more peaceful and filled with joy than I do now. I've never known more joy than I do now. I'm no longer tied to things and petty relationships just to get ahead. I don't crave the praise of others or live in the past or wishing I'd done this or that. I live in the here and now and pretty happily, too. Oh you can tell me you're happy, too, but I reassure you this kind of happiness doesn't come from a life without God. I thought I was pretty "happy" before this, too. Boy was I wrong!

froggy, is this true? New here, so don't know the history, but is he giving more credence to the non-living gods? is he putting his (you said "their"??) own shelfish needs above others?

Anything you worship that isn't God with a capital G is a god--a false god. I used to put money and things and even my job before God. I had plenty of gods before I repented. And yes, I'm talking about other religions as well.

froggy, I was okay with your post until the end. you cannot know how happy another person is, so please don't presume to know that. "this kind of happiness doesn't come from a life without god.... FOR YOU."

I've had both...with and without God. I am just as fulfilled today as I was "yesterday". Actually, moreso, I think. But, the change has nothing to do with God being in my life or not in my life.

froggy, your last post... WHERE does HE say HE worships a false god??

I understand the MEANING. That's two posts about the MEANING of false gods, but does not answer about "accusing" another poster of putting more credence to non-God religions. "MORE CREDENCE". and putting selfish needs above others... (not sure if this was directed at crod or followers of the false religions... a little unclear about that part.

This is the post I was referring to:

I may have been raised in the Western world but Christianity started in the heart of the Middle East well over 2000 years ago. It didn't just come along in the last century and is some new fandangled way of thinking.

The same can be said for 3 or 4 other religions.

froggy writes:

And no matter how much others tried (and keep trying) to suppress it, Christianity won't die.

Again, you're not alone. Every other religion can claim the same thing. In fact, non-believers can also be the same thing.

Yep, that's true, yet you're still willing to give more credence to other religions who worship non-living gods or put their own selfish needs above all others. Interesting.

you last response in this post is what I'm wondering about...

THANK YOU! You and all the other atheists here cannot possibly know how happy the other Christians and I are either so don't presume we're "brainwashed" just because we believe something you don't.

Anytime you don't worship God, you worship other gods--as in things, money, your "self", position in life. Everyone has a god. Everyone. It's what you consider to be the most important thing in your life--and yes, I know you'll say family is it for you (everyone says that) but is it really your family? The one thing people regret the most when they die is having spent too much time working and not being with family-- so how can it really be family? Sounds more like money or position in life to me...

I won't presume to know what's in your heart. I wouldn't presume that. I can, however, believe you are brainwashed, if I thought so. Just like you can believe I'm worshipping a false god, even though I think you are wrong.

I very much disagree with you about worshipping false gods. I don't worship dead people and I don't worship man-made idols and I don't worship myself. Your assumptions are completely unfounded. Your view of family and work is extremely different than mine.

thank you (again) for telling me my beliefs are wrong.... in a post asking atheists why they are atheists. "tell me why you are an atheist and I'll tell you why you are wrong!"

But, I do appreciate you explaining the meaning of you post.

"Getting it" is a beautiful thing. If they "get it", they'll know.
If they don't, like I didn't at one time, they wont. I finally did, just like my other fellow believers on here.

I "get it", and I'm thankful, and I can only give my LORD Praise for that.
I pray that the ones that don't, someday do.

Other than that, I've been entertained a bit here and there on this thread, but I really and truly am tiring of it a bit, and truly care to concentrate on my amazing life that He has given to me. His Grace is Sufficient! He has blown my mind.
I have the most amazing Church family.. They are former drunks, addicts, wife beaters, gang members, convicts, etc. And THOSE are just the Lawyers that are in my Church

Beyond them, are the people that have grown up in church, the Catholics, the Baptists, the Lutherans, the whatevers..., and they have ALL learned that Christianity is ONLY about relationship. Relationship with Jesus.

One thing that the old timers on here may have noticed, ( or maybe not.. I don't care) is this. If you go back 4-5 years and look at my posts, I was a hothead,I loved to argue, flirt, drink, smoke pot, spend money I didn't have, and invite controversy, and even got banned from this site for a time.. NOW I give Praise to God for changing me, and holding my tongue. I have a testimony that is mine, and God moved in my life to create that.

I think during a time in my life, I hid my Faith, and I was perhaps ashamed that I was a follower of Christ. ( Heck, who'd wanna party with me if I was "religious?" )THAT folks, is a hypocrite Christian, and I was one.. so I know)
The bottom line is this... I wasn't a follower of His if I was ashamed. I only THOUGHT I was a Christian at that time, because I prayed the sinners prayer, and made Him my Savior.
I am not ashamed now. I have SINCE made Him LORD of my life, and therein lies the BIG difference. I love God. I Love my Savior and LORD Jesus, and my fruit shows it. Humility came to me, and I accepted it.
I will go to the ends of the Earth to show His Love.

Like Froggy and Hip and Av says, and I say. If you're not serving God, you're serving something ( or someone) else.
The devil has one job. his job is to steal, kill & destroy, and THAT IS ALL! Quite honestly I have seen his words in several posts on here. ( I have them all memorized), and I'll be busy from here on reading the Words from the One that saved me. Thanks to all and God Bless. Be a Blessing today, Be Blessed, and then do it all over again, k?

Seems to me this thread's purpose was to say we are wrong.

Okay. Done with this thread if that's what it's about.
