Icalled the police... on the Peoria.com Forums

I was driving on Main St in Morton today and passed The Office, a bar, and there were 2 children sitting on the front step. They couldn't have been older than 7 and they had coloring books and drinks. I don't know if their parents were inside or what the situation was. I drove back by about 10 minutes later and they were still there so I called the police. My brother in law drove by about 15 minutes later and the police were pulling away so I am not sure what happened but I know kids that young should not be sitting in front of a bar.

Good thinking. I'm glad that you care about the welfare of those kids more than their parents (or whoever was supposed to be caring for them) did.

Virtual pat on the back to you Leslie! Someone has to look after kids of neglectful parents. I wonder how many beers the parents would have had, before possibly driving with their children while intoxicated..Model parents

Leslie, I know that is a tough call to make, but since children were involved better to err on the side of caution.

It could be the parents were right inside the front door with a watchful eye, but then again, maybe they weren't. Let the police investigate and make the call.

I remember my dad taking me to a bar when I was really young. He perched me on a seat at the bar gave me a pepsi and a bag of chips and we were there for hours. Last but not least a don't tell MOM as we drove home.
That would be unheard of and criminal behavior now days.

I'm sure they were out front because children are not allowed in a bar.

I know the owners are a younger couple and it could have been their kids.

I remember my grandfather taking me to the bar next door to his shop on days we were "running errands" -- it was a big big deal because I got to have a small 7-up with a cherry in it!

No chance this is a family owned tavern? I spent quite a few summer days at the age of around 8 or 9 at a good friends tavern here in town, swingset and sandbox in the large yard outback as well as going inside for all the free sodas all day when we were thirsty and good food for lunch from the little kitchen they had there. I have cousins that did the same at my uncles place in Chicago, big difference between a bar and and a Tavern. I remember my uncles tavern serving a really good breakfast. And it was not a diner but a regular corner tavern, kids in there all the time, playing pinball ect.

I'd have done the same thing Leslie. As many others here.

And to comment on the possibility of this being children of the 'young couple' that owns the bar.....wouldn't you have your children INSIDE maybe in the back where there is an office area of some sort rather than the front stoop? Uh....yeah.

Abso damn lutely right, I would not let a kid out anywhere near main street in Morton, have you been through that town. Main street has to be packed that time of day with drunks and meth makers and meth addicts and all kind of freakers and tweakers and what not. Not too mention the filth in downtown Morton, don't get me started, the right thing oh man you ain't kidding, dcfs should really ram it up their butts. Have you seen the size of the rats running around in Morton?
