I Am Sadly Pathetic And Could Use Your Advice on the Peoria.com Forums - Page 4

Ok, here goes:

I am 44yo, married & we have a 6yo boy in kindy. I was born & raised in Chicag, having left for Cali in 93. Husband was born & grew up in Chilli, left after HS to join the Navy.
We left California after DH lost his job & we were just tired of the crap there. Tho I do sorely miss my firneds & the mountains we lived in. But we wanted & needed to be closer to family.
My dad is 94 & still resides on the Southwest side where I grew up. I try & visit him often.
I am a SAHM trying to get my biz going again. I LOVE animals, mainly Wolves, Wolfdogs (we have one supposedly, that we rescued. He goes with me everywhere) & Coyotes are pretty dang cool too.
I'm involved in rescue & can get quite heated about things invloving animals.
I love to be outdoors, would love to find places to hike.
Just started trying to get back into shape & we joined the local gym.
I consider myself a Pagan/Wiccan in learning. Was raised Catholic.
I'm Lithuanian, speak it & am teaching our son, so we can talk about dad right in front of him. hehe

I started out in Santa Monica, then moved to Long Beach after I met DH. Tried to buy a home there but couldn't afford it. So we headed up into the San Bernardino mountains. Lived there for 6yrs, son was born there.
Then DH lost his job, we lost our home, tried to make it in a couple different areas but decided we needed to come home.

there is no place like home!

Love the outdoors..COOL.. We do PDC camping trips in the warmer months. Those always turn out to be lots of fun. Last August we watched the meteor shower, that was a good time. there are plenty of hiking trails and places to fish, ect at the campground, and playground for kids. We'll put you on the list..

ODD, I too was raised Catholic, but am feeling MUCH better lately.

I am so glad to hear that others have had the same kind of "welcome" to the Peoria area.

We've been here for 10 years. My husband grew up here and works for Cat. I came from Eastern Ohio and always had lots of friends and acquaintances. We had moved here and I got asked a lot of "Oh, where did you go to high school?" and "Are you from here?" When I said I wasn't, that usually sent people the other direction. It was hard. And like others have mentioned here, I really thought there was something wrong with me. Was I trying too hard? Was I rude? I have found that there seems to be a bit of a "I have my group of friends and we're not looking for more" attitude. Not to generalize but I've seen that a lot.

Fortunately I met my now best friend when our daughters went to preschool together. And we have another friend, so it's a nice group of three. The irony is that two of us are from Ohio and one is from PA. And when I met them they said the same things about Peoria. It's a shame, really. With all the people coming and going with Cat, etc, you'd think people would try harder to be open to newcomers.

SBD mountains are nice. We (the girlfriend and I) moved from the OC to peoria. Its a nice place here but I dont know how long we will last. She only lived in So Cal for 4 years but REALLY wants to go back.

Peoria, itself sucks if you aren't from here people will treat you like an outcast...But oddly enough the City opens it arms to illegals. But I will leave that one alone.

PMSL!!!! I had 12 years of Catholic schooling. Those nuns were BRUTAL!!
