Punishments don't fit the crimes in the US. Personally, I think all violent criminals should be put to death, and not the pretty version (lethal injection), but let's do it like the Chinese - firing squads.

I don't think you have to spank your kids to be a good parent but I also don't think that spanking them makes you a good parent.

Instigate public executions every week and televise them.

Matthew 5:38-42
38"You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.'[g] 39But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. |

We had corporal punishment when I was in grade school all those years ago. The threat of a spanking was a big deterrent to the kids who acted out. The worst kid in my class got spanked ONCE by the teacher during the entire school year. The rest of us got to hear but couldn't watch. Believe me, no one else wanted to be in this kid's place.
The sad reality is this: schools can no longer take over where the parents leave off because their hands have been tied by the lawyers who says they can't do this or that or the other. But there are parents who still expect the schools to raise their kids. I can't tell you how many kids I see every day who are completely defiant in the face of authority because they know that if they get sent to the dean's office, their parents will side with them--not the school--or just plainly not give a damn about what their kid did. The schools have become ineffective when it comes to discipline. It's a joke. I don't necessarily believe in corporal punishment but I can tell you this: when they took that and religion out of the schools, self-discipline became a real issue. |

Even if schools had the option of spanking kids the parents would have the right to opt out. The parents that have no interest in disciplining their kids probably have no interest in anyone else disciplining their kids either.

I think that all PILOTS should be publicly flogged. If no one could fly a plane, we wouldn't have HALF of the problems we see today. Down with Aviators!!!
