That makes no sense. How does a non working router get you scammed out of $300. The Comcast modem WiFi router used isn't an ordinary router. Most routers assign IPs of 192.168.1.XX where xx are the hardware on your wifi system. ie. computer, iPad, iPhones, androids, whatever uses a wifi address or a fix address on the LAN. Comcast routers use the 10.10.1.01 address which is normally for businesses but it also closes a lot of open ports. In other words, it is harder than heck to port out of a Comcast router than a regular router.

Still I would love to hear how exactly you got scammed because of a bad router? Many people have no idea how to set up a wifi network or even know they can enter the router and change the SIDD and password to anything they like. If these things weren't changed at the install, then maybe someone got into your computer on an unsecured wifi connection. That isn't the router's fault, that is the end users fault. Comcast WiFi modems are not very stable and they do tend to fail. I used one as a test and found it to be a great modem for a float test in any river or lake.

I do have a very good, but used, Netgear N600 dual band router for sale very reasonable.
