I thought you might appreciate this. I saw this guy last Wednesday in Chillicothe while waiting for a friend to arrive so I could photograph his new corvette for him.

awesome photo...I've seen his plane at the airport before but have never met him. (the floats have wheels which can be cranked up/down for landing on terra firma)

I'd love to own a float plane, but it takes a bunch of horsepower to get one of those up on plane so you can attain rotational speed, and then once airborne they perform no function other than to increase drag substantially. What that means is a lot of gas money to go relatively slow by aircraft standards.

No doubt that it's going to have an impact on drag and fuel burn! I've seen him from a distance for a year or 2 and lucked into seeing him in action.

According to the registration info, it's rated at 180HP.

yep, my guess is it burns about 15-18 gallons of avgas per hour to fly at 130 knots. Avgas is running about $6/gallon.

And he probably burns more than that with all the repeated touch-n-gos he does on the river around Chilli... I watched him do it twice.

On a seperate note...am I the only person that thinks the new Corvettes are gross? I love the old classic Corvettes but I wouldn't drive a new one unless I was paid to do so.
