Just got a letter from District 150 stating that even though they don't have the 2011-2012 testing results they know our school, Glen Oak, is not going to meet state required levels therefore we are eligible to apply to have Airen moved to a different District 150 school as long as I complete the application and turn it in before August 26th. My biggest problems with this are (1) they aren't guarenteed to accept/allow us to go to another school (2) they are not going to tell us IF they lets us wwitch school until August 26 hoever school starts on August 20th (3) they list 4 schools that they allow us to pick from - 3 middle schools and 1 elementry.

What are the schools, and that will give you a good idea as to whether or not you'll get in.
Cause this happened to a friend of mine last year and all they would "accept" her into was another crappy school. * This message has been revised. |

Mark Bills Middle School
Calvin Coolidge Middle School Lindbergh Middle School Roosevelt Magnet The letter states that the district must give priority to the lowest achieving children from low-income families. What this says to me is that since my child has great grades (except Launguage Arts which she got a C in) we have little to no chance of actually getting the waiver granted. The problem is as long as she showed up, turned in her homework and behaves she gets a decent grade. Now ask me if she learned something last year and my answer is a resounding NO. |

I strongly considered home-schooling for awhile for this reason but was afraid it would put me in the looney bin.

If students are not up to par then why are they moved to the next GRADE?

A resounding no, tls has the opinion her child was under-educated. Parents who speak out are deemed a nuisance and insunuating the ability of a childs learning experience is the fault the parents is nonsense.
And btw, par in American education is why were dumb, The State owns it. Keep paying taxes, bucko. The ROI is poor, agree? Get your student loan today! * This message has been revised. |

Quite honestly the teachers just don't have time to teach. They spend most of their day trying to control the misbehaviour.

From Billybobswife: "Ther mother screamed, yelled and said that teaching the child was not her duty etc. etc. It got ugly."
While I have no opinion one way or the other on Boundary Waivers, it is very sad that a parent doesn't think it's THEIR job to teach their child. WRONG! The parent is always, always, the 1st and Primary teacher of their child, especially when they are infants - 5 years old. This is a concept that is pushed constantly to our Early Head Start and Head Start parents. Parents need to realize that they don't necessarily have to teach math, English, science, etc. to their children; they need to teach life skills: respect, studying hard, setting goals, doing their best no matter what the home circumstances are. Parents also need to be there to reinforce the importance of doing homework, and being there to help if they can. That kind of love and parenting will ensure a successful student in school, as seen by the example that billybobswife outlined. (except a grandparent had to step in, unfortunately) |
