Chris Christie 2016
By: Mahkno

Has Gov. Chris Christie destroyed his chances for a run in 2016?

Missed it? Apparently the Governor ordered government buildings in New Jersey to fly the U.S. Flag at half mast in honor of.....

Whitney Houston.

The Governor defends his decision.

Needless to say a LOT of vets are PISSED. And rightfully so.

... supposed to have been in the political forum... play on.

One of the bigger fish to fry is that the New Jersey Legislature passed same sex marriage today. Christie has said he will veto it. Meanwhile, republicans in the state legislature want the issue of same sex marriage put to the New Jersy voters for a referendum. That is something Christe doesnt want.

Regarding the flags, you have to understand the broader audience Christie is playing to by his stand.

Southern New Jersey, for the most part, are suburbs of Philly. Northern Jersey is across the river from NYC.

And of course there is Newark. Cissy Houston is an icon in Newark and at her church. So consider it an act of respect for all that Cissy Houston has done for her church and Newark. If nothing else, have some compassion for her. Have a good day.

I was just listening to a local political and social commentator this morning (literally 10 min. ago) talk about the flag/Houston discussion. He was saying that the intentions were all good, and yes, we do honor our vets -- with permanent structures.

IMO, it's much ado about nothin'. People who are against Christie will bemoan. People who are in favor will say to get a grip. As a realist, I say *yawn*... next topic!

Christie does want same sex marriage put up for a referendum.

A Rutgers-Eagleton poll released Tuesday indicated that a majority of New Jersey voters support the right of same-sex couples to marry. Christie, a Republican who has been mentioned as a possible future presidential contender, opposes same-sex marriage and has said that if New Jersey is to become the latest state to recognize such unions, voters -- not politicians -- should decide the issue. He has said he'll veto the bill if it comes to him and back a November referendum on the matter.

I really don't understand how rights should EVER be put to a popular vote.

But that's just me....

A referendum would be a best-case scenario for Chris Christie. Then New Jersey can allow gay marriage without him ever having to go on record vetoing the bill coming out of the legislature.

Unfortunately for him his hand will be forced, but I agree with the other posters that it's a non-issue, especially if he frames it as a "let the people choose, not the government" veto.

According to this article, Chris Christie did not violate any rules of flag etiquette.

http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html

His order meant no disrespect to anyone. His intention, pure and simple, was to offer comfort to those who were mourning the death of a popular but tragic figure.

And his efforts to comfort those in mourning has made him a douche-bag in my eyes. A fat Republican douche-bag.

Do you really think that, AV8R?

Or was that sarcasm? (I don't know you well enough to know.)

I've known a variety of personalities in the military. So I don't know.

Seems that most mil and Christian folks are pro-repub. (stereotyping)

And mil folks are generally fit, so anti- "fat"?

I'm guessing former is a better fit for you.

Ya, his weight I could care less about. It was an unfair comment, but frankly he pissed me off.

Many, many decent military men and women from New Jersey have given their lives for this country or public servants have given theirs for the state of NJ and didn't get a half-staff. The ones that have received that honor now share it with a crack junkie.

Yep. Douche-bag.
