A couple new things... on the Peoria.com Forums

The forums have been quiet lately!

FYI, I made a few changes to the layout, and added two new features:

THANKS:
There's now a "Thanks" button at the bottom of posts -- you can click it to show your appreciation to the author, for a good/useful/funny post.


MENTIONS:
A "mention" is created in any forum post when it contains the text "@username" anywhere in the body of the post. Any time someone @mentions a username (For example, types @PeoriaDotCom) in a forum post, that person automatically receives a small notification in the forum's left hand sidebar. That person can then click the notification link to go directly to the part of the forum where they're mentioned. Why Use Mentions? @Mentioning someone can be a good way to get a person's attention, or make sure they don't miss a message intended for them.

Don't know if I like the Mentions thing lol.

Any chance of getting some modern forum tools? Mainly enhanced editing capabilities, signatures, etc?

I had a post not to long ago about having the ability to edit posts. I do a lot of PDC forums on the go, and sometimes it is several hours before I sit down and review progress on a thread to notice I've typo'd on my phone... to be able to edit posts after several hours and add an **Edited.. REASON: xxxx would be very beneficial..

additionally, signature lines would be great too!

since you are making changes, I used to be able to tell what I've already looked at, but now I can't. Is it possible to change the color of a thread once viewed until a new post gets added?

Popping to the first unread post in a thread (as Luke mentioned in another thread) was always nice.

I love the look and the mentions. Very Social Media in action. but we need a "First Unread Post" plus you can't tell which threads have unread messages

Also, if we're gonna get thank you's, will they be displayed??
Or is that the same as Mentions, I guess, but only you can see your mentions

"Thanks" are shown publicly, underneath the message that has been Thanked, along with a list of everyone who has done the "Thanking".

Mentions are only seen by the person mentioned.

Nah, I've had too many issues with hackers abusing enhanced editing.

Sorry again, I have a pet peeve on signatures. ; )

This was a moderating issue...people starting a fight, then going back and changing what they said...so the abused person looks crazy.

Is it just me or is the font bigger in the politics forum?

Signatures are stupid.

Editing would be nice and I think the idea that post-editing to make people look crazy is ludicrous, but I couldn't care less.

"Thanks" is better than a new post with "+1"

Pretty decent upgrade. Somebody @ me in this shi­t so I can see if the notification works.

Isn't gonna happen... Told you so.

Maybe if Joe added a "roll-back" feature so that any potentially annoying edits could be un-done within a 72 hour period. Then only trusted members would be allowed to edit, up until said user abused privilege, which would need to be moderated to some extent even with the roll-back. Then sure, I could see that...

But is it worth all that work? And when "the man" finally feels compelled to reveal their power by UN-editing an edit, and you realize who is really in control, then what?
