I am thinking about 1997 so I'm sure you are correct - having been there I just always think of that being the seed that spawned the whole summer session / summer camp thing.

Went by there this AM - early - and it is already crazy - line of cars onto Route 29 at about 7:00 AM.

I have been reading some complaints on facebook from some Chilli residents being inadvertently harrassed by cops. One being pulled over for no front plate but she did have one and he said he "didn't see it". She was pretty pissed as she was on her way to the drugstore for her kid's medicine. Another one for "crossing the yellow line" and as soon he the cop saw Chilli address on the license, he was let go. Even with all the tickets thrown out last year, a large number of out-of-towners paid theirs so I think the overall revenue makes up for the illegally issued tickets. But I would be pretty angry if I was a Chilli resident and my civil rights were being violated just because I lived near a festival.

I'm sure there is some profiling going on but I bet the Chilli cops will know most of the Chilli people so if there is anything like you're describing it is probably state or county.

Yes, I think they bring in cops from all over and last year they even deputized some additional forces that don't even normally do traffic stops.

The deputization issue has two prongs. One is whether about 24 outside officers from a three-county drug task force called TRI-DENT were properly appointed as county deputies that weekend. The other stems from a 1992 County Board resolution limiting the number of county deputies to a total of four.

Don't do 1 mile an hour over the speed limit Within 40 miles 3 sisters either. Personal stashes will land you in jail out on the roads.
I have been on stages at summer camp for years, and have a crew out there this year, but personally I am done, and waiting for cornerstone.

I've thought about buying a hippie "wig" and drive through the heights and see how many times i Can get pulled over.

Everyone should read the book, "Arrest Proof Yourself". You'd be surprised at what cops can't do without consent, and how they trick you into giving them consent.

There was a Zappa festival at Three Sisters in 1998. But it was very poorly attended. It was held during Grand Nationals weekend. Goldberg was not involved.

Dweezil Zappa was there last year (or the year before, (I'm kinda cloudy on that lol). But I was working the stage he was on (moonshine stage) and he was amazing.

From what I understand (and this is purely hearsay) is that the new police chief over there has been a real pill about everything since he took the job -- tickets for 1mph over, not signalling long enough before a turn, etc, with zero lenience for anyone. Can't imagine what a treat it will be for anyone trying to spend money in the town if this is true.

While the Chilli cops do have a hayday, State & County are enjoying a LOT of OT
