Lurkers

Why do some members lurk and then log on and post a message real quick and then log off again?

I'm not sure who your talking about Leslie, but I would venture a guess as to why some people would do such a thing. I know on occasion I read the boards when I'm at work during my slow periods but I'm not really supposed to be on this site so I will avoid posting unless I read something I just can't resist replying too then I toss one in and jump off to avoid being busted where I'm not supposed to be. I know others, like Ch Yah will sit stealth while she reads the forums so that people don't get offended that she's around and not talking to them. This enables her to keep up with the happenings at PdC without being interrupted. Other new members just read until they get comfortable that they will be welcomed here. Sometimes posts that appear to be unfriendly may make them wary of exposing themselves. It really does take a while to feel welcome, even on a site such as ours.

Then there are also dorks like myself who get booted mid post and it may appear as though I'm posting and jumping off. LOL

Hope this clears things up for you and I hope your not taking offense to any of these activities. Stealth settings by many regulars are intended to keep people from feeling uncomfortable more so than make them feel paranoid. hmmmmm... or do you think they're still out there watching me.

The reason it seems that I lurk is usually because I am..the stay at home mom. As much as I enjoy reading on here..I also have to change diapers, wipe butts because we're not quite 'trained' yet, fill sippies and get snacks, tend to a dog that must occasionally go out and ..oh yeah..feed the children, put down for naps, play with them, get out play-doh..etc..etc..you get the idea! But I do enjoy reading everyone's posts. :-)

I often jump on real quick while something's printing at work or in a free minute and see what's up and then get off. Is that what you mean?

I read threads for a bit, then went read the news blogs on Gwen Ifill, not I am back.  I often leave to go research something on the news or on Snopes before posting because I want to be able to back up something I might post.

I sneak on at work every once in a while, but a lot of time I can't spend a lot of time on here during the day. At night, I usually have several windows open, so I can go back & forth between PDC & games.

I'm still trying to figure out someone lurks so I can do it.

Maybe it just looks like some of us are lurking 'cause we leave a tab open to PDC while we do other things, then check back, post something, realize what time it is, and nearly soil ourselves as we throw everything into high gear to shut the pc down and get out the door in order to be elsewhere on time. Don't know 'bout ya'll, but that happens here quite often.

I wish I could say what I meant but I don't want to get kicked out of PDC for badmouthing someone. Ooooh, the mystery!
