I did some WORK at the power plant last week. Before I could enter the plant I had to get a background check and pass a drug test. I think people who receive government aid from my tax dollars that I WORKED for should have to pass a background check and drug test before receiving a free handout from the WORKING people in this country.

I think there should be more soup kitchens and food pantries. I don’t know how many children go hungry in this neighborhood. I’m constantly feeding them, knowing their parents just got their food stamps and sold them to buy dope or pay other bills. I know there are churches and neighborhood centers where the children and their parents go to for free meals and I approve of these organizations. Otherwise the kids would go hungry. I think it's a flawed system. The children get breakfast and lunch provided for them free at their schools but the county still doles out huge chunks of our tax dollars to feed them. I’ve never seen so many welfare programs in my life. It’s disheartening.

The real problem with welfare is it not used to "help" people get back on there feet, its used as a "replacement" of money.
150 years ago to survive you had to work, weather it was farming, hunting , blacksmithing, logging, it didn't matter every one HAD to do something to survive and contributed tot he town or community. Now days, a 400 square miles super farm is handled by 20 people and massive machines. Robots have replaced most of the skilled work force because they are more effienct at producing goods. Now noone HAS to do anything to survive. Food is a block away, water is pumpd right to the house, sewage is pumped away. There is no need to be a part of a community THAT HAS to work together just to survive. Technology is not bad because of this, but we have taken it for granted, we have stopped caring about anything cept our oun little houses and yards. We don't need to anythign to survive now day except make money, and that has made ALL of us quite lazy and have the "as long as it doesn't effect me" syndrome. I am guilty of this as well we all are. There has to be a way to get back to the way we were, helping and understanding we have to contribute to humanity to survive. Self responibilty needs to be re-enforced. |

I think it should be required that a person on food stamps must submit thier receipts for the food they have purchased with thier food stamps. Foods such as Kool-aid, soda, chips prepackaged cookies ect ect should not be allowed. Only the staple foods should be allowed flour, rice, eggs, milk, sugar ect

It's so sad there is so much waste and fraud with the system we have. It beats having people starving in the streets. It should be run better than it is. I never understood why they can't buy toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, ect., but they can buy lobster and steak!

If everyone could pack a gun the azzholes would be wiped out in a short period, what would be left is the nice people that know how to act, and if you slip up with the finger or cut someone off while driving, after you get a few shots fired at ya, you'll learn.

Today. I saw someone buy Captain Crunch with Crunchberries. But I also read an article that says users cannot buy fresh fruit and vegetables.

HELLO...think about what you are saying! I am a single mom, who by the way is still married to a man who decided to leave because he couldn't handle being a new daddy. I am 44, I work my ass off at a full time job at CAT. I have three children. I get sooo tired of people who think they see the whole picture. Guess what? Until you walk a mile in someone else's shoes.... My kids have to do without all of the time. And if someone wants to buy Captain Crunch to make a childs day...who are you to judge!?!? My beautiful children go without birthday gifts often, I have bought a birthday cake with food stamps, and guess what...I feel absolutley NO SHAME. I will do what is neccesary to give my children what they need, and yes, sometimes something extra that they don't "need". Get a life people. Get involved, go serve at a food pantry, write your congressman so that you can purchase fresh fruit with food stamps. serve your community like I do in my spare time... instead of bashing people you know nothing about!

I don't think anyone here was bashing a working mom of 3 kids who needs a little extra help. I'm sure that the bashing was geared more toward the people who live off the system. Public Aid should be just that, aid. Not a source of primary income. If anyone here said that someone in your position does not deserve a helping hand.....I'm sure that they would get an earful.
