Without any question it was on 9-11. We were flying from Germany back to the States. East of Montreal the captain came on and said what happened and we were turning back to Germany but first there would be a refuleing stop in Ireland--5 1/2 hrs away. There was a terrifying silence on the plane like you cant imagine. It was all compounded as the captain had been told 50,000 were dead.

We landed back in Germany and the plane was totally surrounded by police cars as we parked in a remote part of the airport. Police came on board with machine guns and stood watch as everyone got off the plane. When we got off the plane were told all flights to the USA were canceled indefinitely.

After that the ATMs didnt work more often than they did and likewise for the credit cards. Nothing even begins to compare to that experience.

@meanjarhead:

similar... reporting to my 1SGT at military school. and first morning of PT when a 6'7" gigantic man kicked in my door to wake me up at 5:30am. (I'm friends with him... have pics w/him on FB... no joke about "gigantic man" comment.)

but really, the most terrifying moment was when my boys were born and they were micropreemies. One day in the NICU, doc stopped me in the hallway and told me I couldn't go down to his bedside yet because they were still working on him from "bringing him back from another world." I'll never forget those chilling words.

I thank you for thanking me. Not only was it a personal fear it was family pride my family has been in the Marine Corps since November 10th 1775. A lot of tradition to live up to.

The worst part of that day was the not knowing. Everything was hush hush. I was in Quantico that morning that afternoon i was on top of the Watergate hotel watching the A10's and F 18's doing laps around the D.C. area. With nobody telling us what the hell was going on. When my Mom found out that i got sent to D.C. that day she was PI$$ED. She knew i was stationed close to there but i was a short timer and she knows that is when bad stuff happens.

Sonogram for a lump in my breast.

And anytime I'm put under anesthesia I worry I will never see my husband and kids again. It's actually when they make you sign the waiver that you know there 'could be' complications. I'm crying every time.

@stayathomemommy:

The last time i had surgery and they brought the waiver over i pointed at the hot nurse after i signed it and said if something happens you give me mouth to mouth. That is when she said i won't let anything happen to you.

Facing my daughter and telling her about my breast cancer diagnosis just a couple of years after her father had died. That was worse than the diagnosis itself since my prognosis was good. That was 1997 and I am still going strong.
