Has anyone else been following this political soap opera? His handlers aren't handling it very well but I still wish him the best in his recovery from whatever it is he's secretly recovering from.

Would it be rude or insensitive to take bets on what he is recovering from?

My money is on some type of addiction. I can't imagine many other illness that would need to be kept secret? Even so, I still wish him a speedy recovery.

Illinois Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr. faced new pressure from Democratic leaders Wednesday to explain his month-long absence from Congress, even as friends and colleagues tell NBC News that he has been at a treatment facility in Arizona.

A family friend who is in close touch with Jackson’s parents says the congressman is suffering from “severe clinical depression” and has an alcohol problem – although his wife and staff have a different view of his condition.

His wife, Sandi Jackson, texted NBC Chicago on Wednesday saying that her husband is “not in rehab.” His staff issued a statement denying Jackson was being treated for alcoholism – they say he is being treated for a “mood disorder.”

@joepyeweed:

There has been some talk in the Chicago area he attempted suicide. That may or not be the case but after hearing about his mood disorder, possibly thats what the problem is.

Also, he a might have an addiction to some kind of street drugs. That would ony be a wild guess because most anything else like alcholism, prescription drug abuse in this day in age would not be a big deal. Other memebrs of Congress, and a former first lady. have been treated for alcoholism and prescription drug abise and they did not have this veil of secrecy surrounding things.

So it is certainly seems to be something more than an addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol.

Manic-Depression? It can sometimes not materialize until your 30s or 40s.

@Mahkno:

Manic-depressives are usually drug addicts because they start self medicating long before they realize they have an illness.
