How Did You Come To Making Peoria Your Home
Jul 10, 2012 - 10:23 pm
My dad was raised he....and he moved back after military and college.

I never left. I planned on going away to college...but didn't have the money or get the loans. I went to ICC for a year and then ended up at BU (who offered me scholarship grants and loans...ended up same as state school...would've been even cheaper than state school had I lived at home....).

It all ended up meant to be....needed family and they needed me. College was great and I was meant for a small school and made lifetime friends. I looked and applied for jobs in Chi after college...but nothing came to be. I got a couple part times jobs and one eventually became full time and here I still am.

It was hard after college...friends all gone, h.s.friends back but different, then they moved away...now many have moved back. That seems to be theme...move away and move back for husband/wife and/or to have and raise kids.

The war ended the day my grandfather finished boot camp. He finished out his service and returned to Tupelo, MS.
As there wasn't much going on in Tupelo (and still isn't), a few months later he took off walking down the road and made his way to East Peoria to work at Big Yellow.

6 kids, 3 grand kids and 2 great-grand kids and we're still here.

@shifty:

Isn't that the Richard Pryor/Mudbone story??

"I drove all the way from Tupelo, MS to Peoria, IL... on a tractor...... one ONE tank of gas..."

I believe the following. I'm sure Hip is very close to this. I know for a fact that Pock is with me on this one:

@AV8R:

I believe in one God. the God of that there is, all there ever will be. The God who said in Isaiah 45:5-7:

I am the Lord, and there is no other;
apart from me there is no God.
I will strengthen you,
though you have not acknowledged me,
6so that from the rising of the sun
to the place of its setting
men may know there is none besides me.
I am the Lord, and there is no other.
7I form the light and create darkness,
I bring prosperity and create disaster;
I, the Lord, do all these things.

The God who created everything, including Satan, as part of his kingdom, which we are all able to ascend to. Who sent his holy spirit to all mankind to show us his ways. Who walked the earth as his only son, Jesus, who chose 12 apostles and taught them to become disciples to spread his word. Who loves us and uses human experiences to develop us into the people that can live out his plan for us by showing us where he works and asks us to join him in that work. Who many cannot completely understand, because as he said in Isaiah 55:8
8“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”

Who goes by many names and strives to have a close personal relationship with each of us.

Hey,

I think its great that a discussion of sorts like this can go on without some of the excitement that often occurs in a topic such as faith.

However... can I suggest you steer this one over into either the religion forum, or private messages?

Thanks,
JP

Haha, when I first heard that as a young kid, I used to think that my grandfather was Mudbone. You know him, ask him!

@JeepPilot:

trust me, we'd love to have this kind of discussion in the religious forum, but every time we do a couple of people chime in to tell us we're idiots for believing in childhood fairy tales....

@AV8R:

I will discuss what I want, where I want. Maybe if the idiots who's only intention in the religious forum is disruption stayed out of it, we wouldn't need to discuss it here. M'kay worm?

Oh, and for the topic police, I have not made this my home, only a temporary residence until retirement.
