Your thoughts.
Jul 8, 2012 - 06:19 pm
I was wondering how other people feel about people that work and collect Disabilty, S.S.I, Plublic aid and unemployment benifits without claiming them.

Not my business, I worry about me and mine and that's it. If somebody is cheating the system, they'll get what's coming to them, one way or another.

I recently applied for food stamps and was denied. My income is barely enough to support myself and my wife (who doesn't work), and some months we just fall behind. I won't be able to afford to pay my electric bill on time this month, because food and gas to get me to work took precedence.

I try to do contract jobs on the side to help out, but a lot of people are struggling and I'm not the competitive type.

So yeah, I tend not to concern myself with other peoples lives. If they qualify for assistance and I don't, then they must be worse off than I am.

@Chef Kevin:

Perhaps, but I'm not going to leap to the assumption that a complete stranger is a lying cheat. If you can prove otherwise, then report them. If you can't, then what business is it of yours? Unless of course you work for the Dept of Human Resources, in which case you get paid good money to worry about stuff like that.

While it might not be any business of mine, it bugs the heck out of me that people like yourself who could use some assistance can't get it while I see people with smartphones, designer wear and nice cars somehow get it.

Im not trying to start any thing I was just looking for other peoples thoughts on the matter. I am blessed at the time to have plenty of work money is hard to come by these days. Years back we need some help and went to the aid office and was denied I need help for medical mainly. They basicly told us to have some children if we wanted help. I can see people that collect S.S.I. and unemployment needing more to help them selves. I am not trying to knock any one for trying to work but I think the system is broke needs help some where along the line.

@diezelmom303:

because wrestling is fake. why don't you report him?

@themrs916:

never heard of liheap, and their website doesn't tell me much. what is it? a few friends have offered access to their food pantries, but that is a LAST resort as it would require going to church which I won't do until I'm practically living in a cardboard box.

All U.S. CITIZENS are Government employees, we are Born their agents. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is meaningless repeated drivel. Home of the free, lol. See Quatar

About the same way I feel about junkers who don't fill out tax forms for the income they make off the junk they take to the scrap yard. Although, I have way to much going on in my own life to worry about what other people are/aren't doing/getting/reporting.

My thought is, it doesn't matter.

For what it is worth, I'd rather have tax money go to needy Americans, hell even Lazy Americans than into the war machine and foreign aide.

but I think the system is broke.

@tntrecycling:

System isn't broke. The Defense Budget was 720 Billion Dollars in 2010. Rather it is State Governments spending recklessly, or the Federal Government.. it comes out of the same pot, the Tax Payer. If we weren't being bleed dry by the Federal Government and out of control defense spending, among other things; perhaps more monies would be available for things that really mattered to Americans, and hell maybe even a reduced tax burden.

But no, every idea that comes out of mainstream Republican and Democratic rhetoric either increases an already excessive defense budget, or increases programs that make Americans even more dependent on government.

Both are flawed.

Sitting around worried about some poor chap getting a 200 dollar check a month is utterly ridiculous when your government is spending upwards of a Trillion dollars on defense programs.. which is really not the case,it doesn't cost that much to "defend" America.. We are playing offense.
