@tapeworm:

Isn't gonna happen... Told you so.

Small Steps..

Maybe if Joe added a "roll-back" feature so that any potentially annoying edits could be un-done within a 72 hour period. Then only trusted members would be allowed to edit, up until said user abused privilege, which would need to be moderated to some extent even with the roll-back. Then sure, I could see that...

Or a "View" revisions, or something where the original is retrievable by whoever cares to look, heck, I'd like to see a View Revisions even without being able edit indefinitely.

@pdc.com

Remember way back when I asked you about the option of different skins on the forum and holiday themes ? You said you would look into it ? LOL

@Pock:

Revisions?! C'mon now, seriously?

As I said, I could care less about editing, but I think this is the only forum I have ever been on that didn't allow them.

Here's my new favorite addition: Fatal error: Call to undefined function: printthanksbutton() in /homepages/18/d246493774/htdocs/includes/message_board.inc.php on line 295

Isn't so different than my first request, was having the ability to edit with a Edited* Reason: line at the bottom of the edited Thread...

I would join your group. I like the new look but the mentions and thanks just seem like a popularity contest. We really need the ability to edit and it would be nice if when you click on a thread it went to the last read post.

eta(edited to add)- I realize that the little box will take you to the last read but unless it has been fixed it does not work with multi-page threads. Also, the box itself isn't needed, you should be able to just click on the thread title and have it take you to the last read post. I think it would simplify things.

"Thanks" encourages people when they post good content.
"Mentions" is a way to point a post out to someone when you want to get their attention.
These both serve a good purpose to improve the forums -- not for popularity contests.

We really need the ability to edit

You can edit for 1 hour after a post is made...

it would be nice if when you click on a thread it went to the last read post.

Click the: icon -- it does just that.

@PeoriaDotCom:

amusingly, I just edited my post to clarify the point about last read.

That's not how forums typically work...I don't want to confuse people who are forum savvy.

it does not work with multi-page threads

It seems to be working for me. Anyone else have a problem? Also, it will be a little quirky to begin with, because there was a gap in the records when the thing was broken.

It wasn't working for me before and will have to wait until more people post to test it.

I belong to a few forums - sure, most of them don't have that option but also don't have all the other fun stuff either. Zetaboard, for example, has advanced editing, jumps to last read when you click on the thread title, many options for skins and backgrounds.

Different background colors make it easier to read, the bright white is hard on the eyes.

eta - to clarify and make it less snarky. sorry, reading fail.

It wasn't working for me either. no time to test though.

overall, changes are fine. Not sure about the "thanks" yet. mentions are good. Keep it comin'!

off I go to do not-so-fun things!

.......later!

I just tried it on this thread and it did work. I still would like to test it on a multi-page thread that I haven't read past the first page yet. Then I will be satisfied. lol.

@PeoriaDotCom:

It is what appears on where the "thanks" button is when you click either reply or quote.

Not sure if I mentioned how much I like the "thanks" button. How about rep next?

@Pock: Not sure if I'm joining yet or not, I'll need to see a campaign platform before I make a decision. Joe says editing is allowed for an hour now, so that seems like it might be a good compromise, no?

I clicked on the little page icon that I anticipated would take me to the next unread post in that thread. It took me to the top of the last page when I hadn't seen the bottom part of a prior page yet.

That's how I remembered it working before, and is still happening, apparently. Say a thread has 4 pages and I have only read 2 of them. That page icon comes up with the top of page 4.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! and Girls Night Out/Guys Night Out were fun!
