You may have to read the entire book to get the essence of that. We can cherry pick out individual verses but without context of the entire story they don't mean much.

I've always said no. I still do.
Ten Commandments say "Thou Shalt Not Kill." I don't see a disclaimer making it OK if it's in the name of man-made justice |

the commandment refers to murder. It lost some in the translation. The Bible, both old and new Testaments, clearly does not prohibit the death penalty. Jesus was not opposed to it either, as some claim.

Regardless, even before I was a believer, I used that commandment to illustrate why I say no to the death penalty.
I just don't see it as a deterrent, and in some ways, these people are like martyrs, especially when they are falsely sent to death row |

No, Illinois alone has found out through new technology uses that they have put to death at least 13 "guilty" people who were found to be innocent.
Can you imagine how that person felt as they were being put to death? They knew they were innocent and no one believed them. I am a highly empathic person, and that break my heart. Maybe that's my downfall, I care. |

Are you sure the guy who preached this would support the death penalty?
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. 32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. |

I don't understand how people who can read this can believe the death penalty is okay.
17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e] 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. |

this could go on forever, so this is my last post, at least from the Biblical perspective:
"for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer." Romans 13:4 |
