One of the great things about my job is that i have mondays off. Which comes in handy when Airen doesn't have school. To give us something to do on these days off we joined the riverplex Terri (the love of my life) and Airen went there on saturday and had a great time sunday is the day we do family stuff so no riverplex. Today no school me and Airen are going to go play basketball and swim. Or so we thought this place is an absolute rip off if you take a child in there on a weekday it is packed to the rafters with old people. we cant go in the gym old lady dance class, (grandma's and techno a funny mix) the pool is menopause soup we cant even go in the lazy river old people. the life gaurd told us there is no open swim untill 5 pm i guess that is when the early bird specials start and the riverplex is no longer gods waiting room. on my way out i asked the lady at the desk what can i do here on a monday with a 7 year old she said walk around the track. So i am paying you 88 dollars a month so me and my daughter can walk around a track ? she said yep. Iam am not asking for the world here let us swimm play some basketball some thing else besides walk around a track hell for 88 bucks a month i can go to the mall and walk around and take that money to buy cinnibon .

Go to Pearce Community Center in Chillicothe, instead! It has a pool that goes from about 3 or 3.5' deep to 5-5.5 ft deep. Indoor track, 2 gyms with basketball goals that can be adjusted to a proper kiddie height in the newer gym.

And it's probably less expensive than River Plex, but I haven't checked.

They also have swim lessons during some evenings, organized sports (soccer, basketball, and I think volleyball from ages 4 to (maybe) 12-ish?). There's also the exer-game room w/ Wii, Playstation dancing games w/ the dance mats, etc. although I don't know all the details to use that room. We used it for my 7 YO's birthday party last year.

YOu can check their calendar for what's going on so there's less chance of surprises when you get there and also 'like' their facebook page.

livingsocial.com has a deal..today only for 5 week classes.. 1 class/week for Gymnastics, Basketball or Swimming for half price. I've not been to River City and am actually checking into the dates/times and am hoping someone gets back to me before end of day. I didn't find the pricing to be too bad. Classes are for children 4-12 years.

I belong to the Y on Willow Knolls Rd and it has many activities for adults and kids. There are always kids playing basketball, ping pong and other activities especially when kids have a day off school. It is clean and well maintained and people and staff are very friendly. Take a tour and check it out.

I was a member at the Clubs at River City last year. I wouldn't waste your money. They have the same issues. The pool is only open for a certain amount of time for the kids to play. It seemed like every time I went there with my daughter, they never had anything open that she could do. I cancelled as soon as I could.

You are probably in your 30's but before you blink next the love of your life will be in menopause and you'll be right there with her. Hopefully by then you will have a little more respect and tolerance for old people than you do now.

The Y does have an outdoor pool that is fantastic in the summer but I undertand that does not help you now.

I would recommend swim lessons at Pearce for a child who is scared of water. Two of my children didn't like getting their faces wet and after a couple of sessions (about 8 lessons), they would put their heads underwater and now they are fish in the pool.
