I would recommend swim lessons at Pearce for a child who is scared of water. Two of my children didn't like getting their faces wet and after a couple of sessions (about 8 lessons), they would put their heads underwater and now they are fish in the pool.

She went to 1 swim lessson at the park district and they threw her in the pool. I don't understand fear of water and have tried teaching her respect of water. This Pearce place sounds great but chilli is pretty far away and she hated the house i like in chilli.

The Y does have an outdoor pool that is fantastic in the summer but I undertand that does not help you now.

The Y on Willow Knolls is super-crowded during the summer but the plus side is it is open until 7PM on weekdays and after 4 it really clears out. Their pizza at the snack bar is to die for too!

Our children took private lessons at Pearce last year and loved it...and LOVED their instructor. All 3 of them scared to put heads need water, which is why I went for private. If we go again this year, I may go for public lessons as I think they are much more comfortable. A lot depends on instructors and individual attention..especially if they are scared the first few times.

I also just found out about Dunlap High School's indoor pool and am wondering if anyone has taken lessons there? That might be an option for some open swim time too, but I'm not sure of their public hours..?
