I believe the State has committed a great injustice by not allowing conceal carry, in turn leaving it's population defenceless.

FFS, are you serious, defenseless? It isn't like guns are completely outlawed. Everyone is free to protect their homes and property with firearms. Oh yeah, and all those cops that are too heavy for you guys to carry around.

If the crime problem is so bad that we feel we need to deputize the entire country, we're already screwed.

Now I 1/3rd like Schock again.

I think IL already has some of the tightest security on getting a gun legally in the first place. Personally, I think if you already have a gun, a simple class of the laws regarding carrying and situations around use should be enough. But WHATEVER they hold legal gun owners to, they need to make the illegal gun "owners" responsible for. didn't register the gun? Ooops...$10000 fine. didn't take the class? Ooops...another $1000 fine. didn't go to a range and have your accuracy checked? Ooops...another grand out of the billfold. THEN comes all the illegal possession charges.

I can't believe that IL lawmakers (most chicago, I'm guessing) can't see how crime has dropped in most states since that state enacted concealed carry. what do they think the criminals did, move? Well, on second thought they probably did....to Illinois!

Yep.

It isn't my job to address the crime issue, I'm only interested in protecting my family, if and when the situation presents itself. I don't relish the thought of getting into a gun fight. I want to carry as a deterrent. When I am off my property, I am most of the times with my children, naturally my first recourse would be diplomacy, I'd like to think I could talk my way out of a potentially dangerous situation... but I'm not getting my brains and that of my child blown all over the ATM.. (remember that?)

For the record, as a CCW Utah license holder, and CCW supporter- I do NOT support this federal overreach.

Want concealed carry? Vote legislators in who will support it, contribute to the campaigns of those who are running against the ones who voted against it.

Absolutely right, 110%. It's almost laughable to watch the knee jerk 10th Amendment "feral gubmint" crowd suddenly think it's okay for the feds to over-reach like this when the issue is something they support. Otherwise, the feds should mind their own business. Hypocrisy unbridled.

It's not okay for the feds to force us to buy health insurance, and it's NOT okay for the feds to force Illinois to recognize another state's concealed carry laws. If you don't like it, do as Ron suggests and elect new leaders, or move to another state.

I despise the term "slippery slope," but this is a slippery slope.

And for the record, I support concealed carry as well, but not like this. My standards are my standards, whether I'm in support of the issue or not. It's called integrity.

Some things are too important to leave to the mob. The State is wrong. I firmly believe the right to self defence is an unalienable right, government was instituted to protect rights, not restrict them. I don't think standing behind a State that is wrong is the definition of character or integrity.

One should always do what is right, regardless of what they support or where their political affiliations lay.

and besides, I have to support some big government stuff to lose this blasted anarchist title I've been given.

I don't think anyone does. Don't confuse standing up against a federal government that is wrong as standing behind a state that is wrong.

If my neighbor wronged me, I would not stand behind him. If my other neighbor offered to kill him for it, I would not stand behind him either. Each is a separate wrong.

I don't think standing behind EITHER is the definition of character or integrity.

If you witnessed a mugging of the innocent, would you shoot the thugs or call 911? You answer first.

SHOOT

Exactly why I'm against concealed carry, right here.
I'm just supposed to trust that you are a good enough shot to hit the guy you are aiming at? Or that the bullets flying aren't ricocheting everywhere causing a much bigger problem than someone getting their wallet stolen?

I'm obviously not specifically targeting you MJH, but how are we supposed to trust the judgement of random people on the street.

I would hope that if the thug was not a threat to life, a more moderate decision would be make than SHOOT.

Concealed carry is not a time machine back to 1880. You carry for defense of your life or a third party life. Period.

Looks like the bill was tabled anyway.

If a thug is robbing someone they are threatening them in some way if you rob someone you dont come up to them and say gimme all your money or ill wax your car. no it is usually gimme your money or ill blow your f*&kin head off. at this point they become a threat and must be nutralized

I sincerely hope that is just big talk. If you truly believe that, without any knowledge of a weapon being used in the crime, then you do not deserve to carry a firearm. Sorry.

If are your answer to every problem, then no. I'm good.
I don't trust your judgment, let alone your marksmanship skills.

Depends on the situation. If I Had my children with me, I wouldn't put them at risk and would most likely flee and call 911.

Even if I am by myself, I'm not sure what I'd do. Being able to conceal carry legally doesn't give me the right to patrol public streets. I think that is better left up to Law Enforcement.

AV8R is right, this isn't the 1880's. Being allowed to conceal carry is one thing, having to use that weapon to defend yourself is another. Having to actually use it is probably a worst case scenario. I most certainly don't want to get into a gun fight.
