I got my son a phone at the beginning of the summer, he's almost 11 now. I was going to hold out longer, but now that he is allowed to roam a little more I wanted him to have it for safety reasons. He had to earn the phone by doing chores, and by behaving more responsibly. More importantly than the work, I expected him to act more respectfully towards me, by not talking back or complaining every time I asked for help. Well, that didn't last very long, he got the phone taken away within a month, due to his behavior, and he still has not gotten it back. I'm thinking he'll be lucky if he gets it back by next summer.

7th grade. That's when their after school activities started. My daughter pays her share each month. Son will too once he starts working more regularly.
