Ahh, another business the employs a large amount of people in the area that Conrad won't be supporting...Anybody see a pattern forming here?

Bass Pro will get more people the opening week then the Museum/Cat Plaza will see in a month.

Some of us prefer level playing fields, rather than corporate bullying, Seal. I don't admire the use of taxpayer dollars for private development.

You don't admire any business that creates JOBS, you have been quite clear on that. You would prefer the local shop employing 3 people, at most, and charging 3x's as much for everything. You have fun with that, and let us know how it works out for you.

Ever hear of low interest loans and/or grants from the SBA? Guess that isn't quite fair either is it?

I’m for private investment in private enterprise. Who are you to say I am against things that create jobs? I am for real growth, not the shifting around that EP’s big box sandbox creates. Go back to your music career, Seal. You continue to demonstrate that you are clearly ignorant about how what progress is.

Really, please explain it to me..Lets examine what is happening here...Businesses are moving into East Peoria, creating JOBS. People get a pay check, they buy stuff, they pay bills, they go out to eat..Gee that sounds pretty positive and progressive to me.

Your idea, nothing gets built. NO new jobs, people unemployed with NO money..Guess they could go live down on the property in a tent city...Yep that right there is progress. Thank you for making me understand.

Jobs are not being created; they are being pulled from existing businesses. While competition is healthy, Bass Pro has stacked the deck with their use (abuse) of taxpayer funds. There is no competition here and there is no growth. Rather than subsidize retail, the region should be attracting more businesses (manufacturing, etc.) that offer head of household wages; jobs that will bring people to the area and create real demand for new retail and service. That is real growth, not shifting. I don’t expect you to understand this, Seal, so please hold onto your rigid beliefs and limited grasp of reality.

Careful SAHM, Conrad is going to come after you for supporting the new HyVee store.

It's not just big box stores anymore, Conrad. The little guys are cashing in, too. Peoria taxpayers are on the hook for a a loan to a Coney Dog location. It's a sign of the times, adapt or die.

Do you honestly believe the nonsense you are spewing?

Really, no new jobs created? So you are going to try to claim that everybody that got hired worked somewhere else? If that is the case guess their former employers are going to have some openings?

I really don't care if it's a HyVee, or something of the like with comparable products and prices. I would just like something closer for those that do live north and west of Peoria. I am in Peoria a lot, but the convenience would be nice.

The former employers won't have the same demand and the need for the same number of employees.

That isn't necessarily true at all, IF they offer competitive prices and service.

I happen to know a Pharmacy Tech, produce person and cashier that are all very thankful for their jobs at HyVee, after seeking employment for over a year. It's not just 'a job' for some, but an income with benefits. Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture.

yes and the only reason these small businesses are cashing in is because the municipalities have opened the door by bonding large private projects. Cities now have to bond small private development projects to level the playing field. Will Bartonville pony up bonds to keep Presley's business? Eventually there will be no difference between private and public enterprise. I find it interesting that conservatives support increasing the size of the government debt and resources to fund this stuff.

Personally, I have mixed feelings. I think it is good for short term economic growth, but I still wonder if its really good for long term community stability. I will enjoy the short term benefits. But I wonder what will happen to the buildings when the lease runs out. The lease payments don't cover the bond payments. There is a risk that the net benefit to the community won't cover the bond payments. I'm not fond of using tax based government bonds to cover development risk.
