Just to be clear, Vivian Schiller, the chief executive who resigned, is not the same person who was on the tape (who also resigned). And the controversial comments he made, pretty much mirror things that I would say... of course I don't work for NPR either, so I have more liberty at what I can say.

I thought I was screwed up somewhere, I swore it was a man talking in the clips I saw. And yes, he's pretty much spot-on with
"Tea Party people" aren't "just Islamaphobic, but really xenophobic, I mean basically they are, they believe in sort of white, middle-America gun-toting. I mean, it's scary. They're seriously racist, racist people."

Now I know this isn't every single teapartier, but it certainly describes a very large cross-section of them.

For you to say that "a very large cross section" of tea partiers is racist is akin to me saying a very large cross section of Muslims are terrorists.

Do you have facts to back this up? What percentage of tea partiers are racist?

Certainly there are no statistics stating what percentage of tea partiers admit to being racist, as opposed to muslim terrorists.
If you'd like to pretend you don't believe that racism is prevalent in the tea party's base, go ahead. Certainly any of the evidence in photos, videos, print, leader firings could be construed as catching a snapshot of a minority.
You can believe what you want, but I know lots and lots of "white, middle-american, gun-toters" and every single one of them is racist to one degree or another.

In any event, if your theory is that the leader of the organization's opinion represents the whole (as with Schiller's firing seems to mean to the right with regard to NPR in general), then does not the same hold true with Mark Williams and the TPExpress?

That's not my theory at all...nor have I ever said it was my theory. The head of a group I may support doesn't speak for me.

So you don't think racism is prevalent in the tea party?

There are racist elements, much like the dixiecrats of the 60's...but to say it's prevalent is a stretch, in my opinion.

Everyone is racist to one degree or another. To think otherwise is silly. Blacks are racist. Indians are racist. Japanese are racist. Whites are racist. Mexicans are racist. Shall I go on?

If all your acquaintances are racist beyond the norm of society, perhaps you should more closely examine yourself and your class of friends.

Speaking of which, AV, even though this was attributed to Michael Richards (Kramer from Seinfeld fame), it was never said by him, but still, wonder if this fits what you jsut said....

"Proud To Be White

Someone finally said it.
How many are actually paying attention to this?

There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc. And then there are just Americans.

You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman' ... and that's OK.

But when I call you, Nigger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink ... You call me a racist.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund.
Youhave Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You have Yom Hashoah.
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television) we'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.
If we had White History Month , we'd be racists.
If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives we'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that?

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships you know we'd be racists. There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US. Yet if there were 'White colleges' THAT would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am proud. But you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists?

To quote Kid Rock: "How can we seek salvation when our nation's race relations have me feeling guilty of being white"

I don't feel guilty for being whit. I feel guilty for what people have put each other through, on both sides of the coin, in this country, and the complete lack of attention given to the situation, historically by our "leaders" other than a bunch of lip service....

The good news now is that democrats can stop feeling guilty about defunding NPR. Clearly, the VP of fundraising said that they would be better off without government funding.

which is why that guy won't be working there no more.
Government funding is about 1/6 of the NPR revenue.

he was leaving of his own free will, but they did terminate him a week or so early for his comments.

You probably believe it's because his comments do not reflect the position of NPR. I contend it's because his comments DO reflect the position of NPR, and they're pissed he got caught revealing the truth.

Another interesting fact is that more conservatives listen to NPR than they do Fox news.

And liberals tend to watch Fox News longer than conservatives...and people that oppose Howard Stern listen longer than his fans...it's a keep your friends closer and enemies closer type thing.

I read that it was about 2% for national, but the percentage was much higher for local affiliates. If funding is pulled, the national organization would be fine, but around 100 local stations would go dark.

Looking for link now
