Tax help
Feb 1, 2011 - 05:34 pm
Anyone bored with cabin fever and want to help me? If not, I understand, this is boring me to tears. My first question is, where can I file with Illinois for free? We have some Roth IRA's. All we got were forms that say their market value, but we didn't contribute to them last year, is there anything I need to do? Where can I find my illinois property tax? We have something from the mortgage, but it doesn't say anything about what we paid to Illinois.

What county are you in? You can try to look on the county website for the property tax information. You can also look on the Illinois Dept of Revenue site for information on filing electronically.

In Illinois, you can file for nearly free by making copies, putting them in an envelope with stamp on it and putting it in the mail.

You can find your property taxes at the Tazewell County Assessor's Office. 309-477-2275

I figured out the property tax!! I was thinking too hard and should have realized that the program was going to do the math for me. So when I compared to last years it was different.

My first question is, where can I file with Illinois for free?

Print, postage, mail?

We have some Roth IRA's. All we got were forms that say their market value, but we didn't contribute to them last year, is there anything I need to do?

The simple answer: Roth's are not deductible. You contribute to them post tax but withdraw them in retirement tax free. They don't figure into your yearly filings until you start making withdrawals.

Where can I find my Illinois property tax? We have something from the mortgage, but it doesn't say anything about what we paid to Illinois.

Property taxes are paid to the County. You should receive a 1098 form from your mortgage holder that indicates what you paid in property taxes (assuming the loan is escrowed). That 1098 also indicates how much interest you paid on your mortgage. If you paid property taxes directly, you should have a bill or look it up in your bank statements.

Took me 10 minutes. Helps to have your federal done first, as you will need to start with your adjusted gross income.

have been using this one several years. It's very 1995 (you'll get it when you go there) but it works and it's free. I used H & R Block for federal for free but I knew better than to pay $30 to do my state on there
