Didn't realize this was considered where all the "rich" people live because I am far from rich,. So I'm guessing this area is not the city so am I going to get more tornadoe action out here? Thank you for all the names of places and things to do.

I'm a country girl..but so far as I know, Tornadoes do NOT discriminate. My sister lives in the Atlatna Ga metro area. A few years ago a tornado ripped thru downtown Atlanta Ga.
The city. *gasp*awe* A tornado can hit ANYWHERE. |

Around 10ish and you might not even hear it unless you live close to a tower.
But, if it's real, and you see a cow lifting off the ground or sparkly red shoes flying through the air, I'd head back down into the root cellar. |

Wait till the combines and tractors start flying thru the air..into town. You know, when those tornadoes hit us country folk...our equipment needs someplace to go. Your front yard.
And if you find my casserole dish, let me know. I lost it in last springs storm. I swear I had that put in the cupboard. Guessin not. |

The first Tuesday at 10:00 sirens are tested. Tornadoes don't discriminate and the chances of being hit are very slim. You are considered living in the rich part of town because you are in the Dunlap school district which is the affluent school district that is growing rapidly. There is also Wildlife Prairie State park, the Glen Oak Park has a nice play area, if you like hiking or biking the Rock Island Trail isn't far from you. During the winter you can take your kids to Rainbow PlaySystems to play on Williow Knolls. If you are looking for suggestions for doctors there is a yahoo group called Peoria Nursing Moms that has had discussions on doctors in the area. There are always moms with young kids at McDonald's with Playlands during lunch.

Seriously, they are an unpredictable freak of nature. They can not be predicted just like earthquakes in CA or hurricanes in the gulf. I don't recall a tornado ever hitting Peoria proper in the 40+ years I've lived in the Peoria area. Central Illinois also sits near the New Madrid fault which scientists for years have been suggesting the Midwest is due for a giant earthquake. Do I worry about it? No. Back to tornadoes. About a decade ago, a tornado ripped through the west side of Morton, IL leveling townhouses and a subdivision. My parents live about 1.5 miles from there and didn't even know it occurred (minus the sirens) until they heard it on the news. In other words, you almost have to be right in the path. What are the odds? My guess is you have a better chance to get killed in a car accident. I'd be more worried about how there is an unusual amount of people in this city that like to run red left turn arrows that could kill you in Peoria than a tornado. Feel better? |
