I'm getting my mom season tickets to a theater somewhere..still researching. Although her friend wears hearing aids and I'm not sure this would be a good date plan for every single show??
Overnight stay somewhere?.. Bus or Train tour somewhere? |

Cd's of music or dvd's of shows they loved at some point in their life?
I usually add to my mom's scrapbooking hobby selection...buy her a new tool or smoething like that. I mail my grandmother a card, pictures, a gift certificate or something I made for her. My own father is the very worst person in the world to buy a present for....I've actually just stopped and most often just give him some photos in a card. Everything I get him he doesnt like it, he already has it, he tells me he doesn't need it...etc. If he visits us and I do get him something, I let the boys pick out some work gloves or something like that for him. |

seriously, get them stuff they can use. laundry soap, dryer sheets, fabric softer, toilet paper, dish soap, etc.. rolls of quarters if they live in an apartment for the washer and dryers. make like a basket filled w/ that stuff. they will love it.
most of the time the elderly are on a fixed income and those products can get expensive. eases the burden on them. |

My parents are elderly, but they are in good health and fairly well off. It does make buying for them pretty hard. They live frugally, so usually I get them something I know they would use, but they would never splurge on. Like gourmet coffee, massage oil (I Know its freaky, but its funny too!), my mom likes the expensive facial products, my dad likes beer (but he would never buy a premium brand).

Some other ideas are Lottery Tickets, pay for their lawn to be mowed or snow removal, car wash tokens,or a special day with them doing something special even if it is sitting and talking with them one on one.

This summer my dad was using his pocketknife since he has had since a kid and said it isn't very sharp anymore. So I am getting him a new one.
My mom showed me her swifter broom which is broke and still using it. So I am buying her a new broom. My sis thinks it is silly to buy such things. But I listen and buy what they need & won't buy on there own. |

My parents like gift certificates to their favorite places to eat and Peoria Charter Co. They just got back from 3 days of Christmas "whatever". However, this year neither is getting those. They have both have been whining about something they want, have the financial ability to go buy it, but haven't. Of course, on Dec. 23 they both will......

I thought of a few more.Digital photo frame (preloaded with photos). A free standing toliet paper holder, this would be so much easier for them the trying to put tp on standard holder if they have arthritis in their fingers. Does the drug store where they get their meds have gift cards ? Those on a fixed income with high medicine costs may appreciate this.
