Obama & Burning Things

So let me get this straight...Obama is appalled by burning the Koran, but he's ok with the burning of the American flag...am I the only one that finds this revolting?

OMG I was just thinking the same thing. I was watching NBC Nightly News, and they showed how the Muslims are protesting the possible burning of the Koran by burning the American Flag! The ridiculous paradox of that didn't even dawn on the clueless reporter.

this is interesting, and I'm not one to blindly back the Prez, but there is a substantial difference between our flag (the symbol of our country) and the Koran (the religious text of Islam).

The thing that struck me as most ironic was Obama's RUSH to defend the RIGHT of the Muslim community to build a Mosque near ground zero, while refusing to comment on whether or not it was appropriate, and his marked difference in NOT defending the RIGHT of the Church in Georgia to burn the Koran, while quickly commenting on how it IS inappropriate.

I'm opposed to this Koran burning, in my eyes it lowers us to the standards of those who are burning our flag and refusing to even allow the Bible in their country. Latest thing I read is that those whacko's from the Westboro Baptist Church are going to do it if the Georgia church does not. Pathetic.

I agree the Koran burning is silly. They are only doing it to get attention, similar to a toddler temper tantrum, and the stupid media is playing right into their hands.

I'm against this too, but if burning the flag is protected as free speech, so should burning the Koran

As I stated in the similar, religion forum topic, if the Muslim extremist community can state that burning the Koran will lead to violent terrorist activity directed at Americans, then America should be able to state that the next American flag burned will lead to their country being flattened and turned into a multi-national parking lot.

On pure gut instinct it seems easy to agree Cat, but the problem I have with that is exactly what you stated, that the Muslim extremist community is the one's saying it. The vast majority of Muslims are not extremists.

For our government to respond in kind is totally inappropriate. What has responded is a Christian extremist, from some church in Georgia. He's no better than them in my opinion.

No, and I agree with you. Book burning is usually preformed by guys in white robes and pointy hats, or goose-stepping guys with funny little mustaches. I don't believe the Koran should be burned. BUT, having said, that I find it ironic that other nation's leaders condemn this group and expect Obama to step in, but they aren't at all offended when our flag is burned.

And along with that goes putting up with other countries' insults and threats? Those ARE big boy undies.

I keep seeing clips of the Imam's interview last night. I just heard a quote where he said "if we don't build the mosque then that would mean we let the radicals win". I can only conclude that he is referring to 70% of the American people and he seems to be forgetting that he happens to be in America.

Something just does not fell right about this whole thing. It almost feels like this immam did this to stir up these bad feelings on the Islamic side and American side. It almost feels like he is trying to pick a fight.

He is right! If we let the terrorist attacks determine where we can build things then the terrorists have won. They wanted to change our way of life and it looks like they have done it.

"Muslim and democracy are irreconcilable," said Lance Corey, 61, a retired history teacher from the Bronx. "I have a problem with fundamentalists."

"Muhammad is very intolerant. There's a dark side to Islam. I cannot tolerate intolerance," he said.

Hmmmmm. He sayd "I cannot tolerate intolerance." In other words, he's intolerant of intolerance? How does he live with himself?

It seems most don't know why we were attacked, it is ok...
It is easier to be mad and throw a fit than to handle something reasonably.

Take away the political propaganda.. on BOTH sides. What is left? Intolerance. If we respond with Intolerance, teach our children intolerance, no one wins.
