I used to go to the medieval themed old english fair at Jubilee park every year until last year when it was canceled. i cant find anything online as to whether or not it is on track for 2010 though. anyone know if it will be back this year, and if so, any idea as to when? thanks!

I didn't think it was going to be at Jubilee anymore.

It is not going to be at the Jubilee Historic Site anymore. Wildlife Prarie Park has taken up the sword, so to speak, and will he hosting the event. It will not actually be at the park, but is going to be held on a HUUUUGE parcel of land they own across the road from the entrance to the park. All the usual events and attractions are planned. Jim and Linda Tuminelli, the event organizers for the past Ohh, twenty-some years, are going to help the WPP staff get the event on track, so it keeps it's charm. |

The state was involved before. Unfortunately when Jim and Linda (both state employees) decided to retire, and asked to have someone "apprentice" under then to learn the in's and out's of the event, the state opted not to. Then of course the site was closed to budget cuts and it didn't happen last year. WPP is looking to carry on the event just as it was before, but at the new location. |

And it's a great location!.... If I'm correct, it is at the Parkside location across the street and south just a bit from the entrance. ?? There is house and very cool old barn w/ stone walls next to it, but I do believe that is private property. Does anyone know?

It is right by that house next to the pavilion. Great spot! We're building bike trails on that property.

A big difference from past years is that there won't be open camping for all comers. What camping there will be, will be for the 'official performers' who are 'hired' by the state. So all those extra folks who would show up and camp in costume just for the fun of it, are out of luck.

I know a few SCA people, but have not talked to them recently about the event. Last I heard, everything was to be the same. I'm supposed to talk to the event co-ordinator on Monday, I'll ask. I do know it's Fathers Day weekend, as before. |

I just spoke to the event co-ordinator at Wildlife Prarie Park, in regards to the Old English Faire. He informs me that the SCA (the costumed participants) ARE going to be camping at the event. Things have been slimmed down a tiny bit, though. The SCA is in charge of their camping area, and has final say as to who will be allowed to camp. They are limiting it to people that are participating and/or demonstrating different aspects of the medieval time period. (vendors will have their own area) If someone is an active member of the SCA, i'd think they will all still be camping. There were a lot of people showing up to camp at the event that were simply looking for a party. That's what they are trying to limit.
It will still be a great event, just at a new location. |
