Just an observation..... on the Peoria.com Forums

In the interest of disclosure, I'm 35 years old. Now having said that......when I was growing up I was all about Bryan Adams, Phil Collins, Metallica and a whole plethora of other 80's and 90's rock and R&B groups. But I've moved on to groups like P.O.D., the Sick Puppies, T.I., Sum 41, etc.

It seems like most people I know my age are still listening to music that we listened to in high school. What's the deal? Sometimes I'd like to travel back in time and kick my 15 year old ass for listening to that stuff in the first place.

We are about the same age and I listened to that same stuff when I was younger, but I also listened to John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen...and I do still listen to all of that, because I love it but also to make sure that Abby has an appreciation for all types of music

I also listen to more modern stuff. I do wonder sometimes about people who only listen to classic rock, like when did you decide that you wouldn't listen to new music? I like Shinedown, Weezer, Offspring, and a lot more. I also like Lady GaGa, Adam Lambert, Pink, some Brittney Spears. I am also going further back and listening to Roy Orbison and some other older stuff.

I never really decided to listen to new music......I always just got tired of the old crap and like new stuff as it came out. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with classic music, I like it when I hear a song that I haven't heard in a while........I just don't understand why people think I'm weird for jamming out to new stuff. I refuse to grow up!

Who are you talking to that is giving you crap for listening to new music? Did they sit you down one day and say "Dave, we have to talk about that new music you are listeing to...if you keep that up I don't think we can be friends anymore, you need to make a choice." lol!

Weezer and Offspring?

I guess I'm degressing. I grew up with guitar rock and blistering guitar solos...REO, Nugent, Aerosmith, Skynyrd, Outlaws, Cheap Trick, etc. and I still love that sound. So, I am slowly discovering the blues. I just sort of lost interest in mainstream music in the early 2000s. I hear "popular" songs on the radio and they just don't "do it" for me.

Dave, are we not going to be friends anymore? And, both Weezer and Offspring have had cds out in the last 2 years or so.

Yeah but the Offspring really do have offspring of their own now and Weezer is weezing after climbing the stairs

I'm a tad bit older than the both of you but lived, loved, breathed the 80's. STILL love the 80's but I'm also a fan of alot of different artists now as well, spanning all styles of music. And I thank all the people that I've met in my life up til now, that have introduced me to them all. Speaking of the 90s...POD? Sum 41? I think Sum 41 really are 41 now and POD stands for passing out dead...from old age!

Leslie, not for years. When we moved to the mountain we only received certain stations, KROQ wasn't one of them. Got used to not listening to it. Is he still on? WOW!

When I left he was still on, but only on Sunday nights from like midnight-3 am. Jed the Fish is still on. I listen to it online a lot, I still love Kevin and Bean. I didn't get KROQ sometimes even in Fontana, there was no way you would get it in the mountains.

I listen to all of it.
I started listening to rock in the 70's, so the power guitar sound is what I liked then and like now, too, but I listen to everything. Old, new, hard rock, even some rap and country.

But I rarely listen to classic rock.

BTW, KROQ in the late 80's was the BEST station ever!
