Umbilical Cord Blood Banking on the Peoria.com Forums

I was reading an article about it and found it interesting. Have any of you moms here considered it or done it ?

nope..the blood bank costs too much..

considered it but then found out the costs. Around 1,000 to start and then a couple hundred a year. If I have kids I am going to donate it (free) to a collective bank and if something were to happen and no one else had taken it, it would be in the national bank.

We donated ours to the U of I medical school in town when our son was born.
My understanding (explained by several doctors) is that banking cord blood is a scheme, by the time you were to ever need it, more than likely scientific advances will have taken place to allow use of non-personally genetic stem cells. Actually, this is already very close to fruition.

if i would of known and could of afforded to i might of done it for my girls
